Making a universal oiler work on a sthil 024 av

A few years back I sent my saw to a guy that went by the name of stinkbait. Or at least I think that this was his name. He put a oiler on my 024 AV. It looks like to make to oiler work the top of the worm gear needed to be reamed out so that the clutch would tighten down on the brass sleeve...

    Sharpening hand prunning saws

I am just wondering if anyone sharpens their hand operated prunning saws. I have been looking for a file to sharpen one of these handsaws and the file is pretty expensive ( around $30). So does anyone sharpen with a dremel tool cutting disc or something besides the file?

Help me understand Carabiners a little better

I can't remember all the terms that I have seen but here are a few: Twist lock Screw lock Ball lock Pin lock (not sure about this one) Auto lock Bi lock triple lock Pear shape D shape Oval shape Steel Alum I am sure that I have missed some. Which carabiner is an example of a triple lock...

    O-rig

Yesterday, I got a hitch pulley, an e2e, and an o ring. So I had to go and try out the O-rig system. I decided to use a distel hitch. I ended up with 6 turns above and 1 turn below. This makes the hitch very compact and the hitch holds good and releases very controlled with only 2 fingers...

    climbing with a panten

Oldoakman gave me a panten and today I got to try it out. I liked the panten and it was much easier to climb with than the foot loop prusik. I need to find a way that I can also use my left leg for climbing. Maybe I need a panten for my left foot. I could alternate between legs this way...

Class 1 and class 2 eye splices

Sampson uses different techniques for splicing class 1 and class 2 rope. From what I see class 1 rope breaks at 6% stretch or greater and Class 2 rope breaks at less that 6% stretch. Does this mean static line is a class 2 line and therefore the class 2 technique needs to be used?

Pro's and con's of Carabiners and screw hardware

Pro\'s and con\'s of Carabiners and screw hardware Screw hardware seems to be less expensive than say a locking screw carabiner. I like the idea of having a multi action carabiner so that there is less chance of the gate opening by itself. My current set up uses a screw delta where it hooks...

Splice for eye on end of rope

Since I climbed with oldoakman, I have been thinking about splicing an eye on the end of my life line. I might want an eye on each end. Oldoakman showed me a eye to eye that he had spliced and it looked pretty good. Today I decided to see what I could learn about splicing. I took a look at...

What are some fun things to do once in the canopy?

When I get into the canopy, I usually sit on a limb to rest a little and then I start to move around a small amount. I take in the view and take a close look at the tree to see if I see any unusual lichen or moss. Maybe if I knew more about things to look for then I could keep myself amused...

Just wondering how slow I am compared to you guys

I take it easy when I climb and average about 1 foot of climb per minute. I saw a guy using two hand ascenders with foot loops one each and something that he called an "M" system. With this system and SRT he was climbing 30 feet in 15 seconds. It would be tough for me to just walk up 30 feet...

    Location of recreational climbers

I am wondering if there are any recreational climbers close to Tallapoosa county, Al. If anyone is having a climbing meet close by I might be wanting to come and climb.
