Out on a Limb...
Out on a Limb Tree co is looking for one or two climbers with at least 2 years of full-time climbing experience. no crane work, no bucket work, no topping, no stumpgrinding - 60-75% pruning from hedges to 150 ft douglas fir trees. removals are generally technical and not huge. owner is a climber...
two day event this weekend at the washington park arboretum in seattle, put together by a small handful of dedicated volunteers. weather was exceptional, trees were great and though the crowd watching was small it seemed the competitors all had fun. generous prize pkgs as usual - thanks to the...
hey everybody. this is not my usual forum for lurking, but all the more reason to shout about leafsnap, which is a new FREE iPhone app. put together by volunteers at the smithsonian, university of maryland and columbia university.
basically, they've appropriated face-recognition software to...
hey guys,
am test-driving a 12" carleton tomorrow. anybody have or use one of these things? i've only ever used bandits and never heard of a carlton chipper til like two weeks ago. interested in any comments on the manufacturer.
thx.

my company made the news friday, but in a most unfortunate way. 645am on the way to a job on the interstate, i was about ten cars ahead of my crew who were in the chip truck when traffic slowed suddenly. i slammed on my brakes to avoid rear ending the guy in front of me and immediately looked in...
anyone ever removed one of these things of any size? also called california bay laurel and myrtlewood. we pruned a big one a few years ago and nearly puked our guts up in a chipping cloud of fumes that made eyes burn and water, nose clog up, etc. now they are thinking about removal. anyone have...
hey guys, we're in a bit of a cold snap (for us) meaning it's gonna be below freezing for a week. i have a customer who heard on tv that pruning trees below freezing is bad for them, which i think is probably untrue. i know where you get real freezes, pruning continues all winter. my question...
hi all. this one stumped the whole crew. very vigorous tree (like 4 ft suckers from poor cuts in one year) in a too-small spot, which we removed this week. mature leaves quite different from younger leaves, not even lobed. we kept thinking mulberry of some kind (no fruit tho). for size/vigor i...
reaching out through the TB cafe for names of the class act tree companies in westchester. friend of mine needs some tree work and i don't have any personal connections over there.
anyone?
thanks in advance!

hey, if anyone is interested in a fantastic opportunity (on rather short notice..) here's a link to a wilderness first responder class specifically for arborists:
http://www.northerncairn.com/index.php?o...tails&did=5
this is a first-time course, and they need a handful of folks to sign...
just curious, as we are built differently than guys and saddles are designed, for the most part, WITHOUT us in mind. i started in a sierra moreno sliding D with the "backjack" backpad, and climbed in that happily for 6 or 7 years. tried the petzl navaho and found the waistbelt twisted too much...
if one were studying for the BCMA exam, what would be the most helpful single book? i'm looking for the place to start, as i realize the list is pretty long. anyone who has passed the test have recommendations?
thanks,
k.
