I had a 65L Cobra that I was pretty disappointed with in terms of durability. A large drybag isn't a bad idea though. That might end up being the most budget friendly.
Given the velcro and maybe the zippers, I'm sure this is not a waterproof bag, but I was wondering if anyone that has one could vouch for any level of water resistance it may have?
Right now I'm keeping everything but my ropes and saddle in a canvas duffle bag, which is cheap and works, but I'm...
THAT is a really helpful tip.
Samson's instructions say to make mark Z a short fid away from Mark X. To increase the length of the taper, could you make that measurement a long fid, or something?
Tried again. This time I made sure I had some cover tail left over to grab on to after the initial bury to pull on, which got the crossover much closer to the diameter of the rest of the rope.
This one seems less bumpy than the last.
What do y'all think?
If this still needs a lot of...
This was my next attempt with 3/8" Stable Braid. I was very conscious this time of not twisting anything, but wound up with the same problem.
Maybe it is a problem with my crossover or final burry?
I've been putting a needle in my crossover, but not stitching it.
Anyone have an example of stitching the crossover they could post a picture or video of?
I lockstiched the splice after taking the picture.
I followed Samson's instructions pretty accurately as far as I can tell. I think the two places I went wrong on this one were 1: getting either cover, core, or both twisted somewhere along the way, and 2: something wasn't quite right about my...
I figured as much. Nystron seems more difficult to splice than stable braid, at least to me. Maybe because of the waxyness?
Oh well. Good practice, I guess.
What do y'all think of this splice. Is it too lumpy? I think I might have gotten the jacket twisted during one of the berries or something?
1/2" Nystron
I just got some Teufelberger Dragonfly, I love everything about the rope except for the fact that my hitches don't want to grab reliably. I've tried 4 wrap michoacans with HRC, 9.3 mm epicord, and 8.0 mm epicord. This is all double line with a hitch climber pulley.
Has anyone used this rope and...
I use a 201 a lot at work and it's a workhorse, everyone likes it, everyone's heard it before. At work we also have a 194 that sees very little use. I like how lite it is, but that seems to be the only thing it has over the 201.
My personal saw is a Husqvarna T536LiXP, but I have a Bli200X...
Of all the top handled saws out there, including battery powered, which ones do you find have the best anti-vibration technology, and which ones seem easiest on your forearms to use?
I'm pretty cogniscient of using good form, not over reaching, but I'm trying to prolong my career as much as...
Looking at getting my first hand ascender. I like the look of the simple ones like the Petzl Basic and the Climbing Technology Simple, but I am worried they won't be as ergonomic as an actual handled ascender. That being said, I'm sure they would still be easier on my forearms than just gripping...
I just realized that yesterday and it broke my brain. Not sure why I interpreted the instructions the way I did. I tried picking the strands the way you mentioned and it worked perfectly.
I've seen Stockton and Foresman's. They were both super helpful. Haven't seen Poplar Mechanic's yet, but will check it out for sure.
Stockton is a Teufelberger ambassador, so I assume he is certified to do at least that splice. I don't know much if anything about Foresman and Poplar Mechanic...
Rookie splicer here. I've been making eyes of various sizes for practice. I've been working with 3/8" and 9/16" stable braid, and 1/2" Nystron. Just realized I have been doing my tapers wrong.
I've been pulling and cutting every 5th strand in the cover, rather than 4th and 5th. So I tried the...
