Absolutely. I'm pretty sure it would have failed even with lots of friction at my redirect. It was an experiment. Lol. And it failed miserably. I have a few redirects I use to get more friction. One that uses one ring and a biner. If I need retrievable I'd use the M bight. If I had used the M...
I couldn't care less about how the glasses look, but those Oakley's do a great job.
Ok.... and I do look pretty fleek. Whatever that means.

It was a poor decision to begin with. But I REALLY wanted the perfect redirect. Lol. I just gently dropped a few feet. If it were in the crotch it would have been fine. I'll see if I can make a drawing. Or I'll take pictures next time I'm in the tree. It's in my yard.

We have 4 of them already on various helmets. Well have 2 Protos and 2 Kasks. The new guy still gets a stinky Stein forestry helmet though.

I can see how it would be more beneficial for a tree with a hard lean that you need to snake your rope up the topside.
Or... ya know..... just basal tie and SRT that mutha. [emoji51]

Aint that the truth. Ive watch a guy drag a GSW to the femur into Bayside ER. I jumped on him to apply pressure, thinking "you fucked up bringing this poor bastard to Bayside!"

I did a little reading. A half gallon of vinegar is probably the reason that tree is dying. Not much you can do about it besides watering the hell out of it the flush the soil and maybe a hail mary on fertilizer. But if the leaves aren't there at all, it's probably dunzo.

I don't know the typical life span though. They CAN get to be very, very old. That tree may be there longer than any of us.

Large trees can be hollow and perfectly healthy. White oaks grow much slower, and trees the same age as this (my guess is 300 years) may be much smaller.

It's difficult to assess the tree without eyes on it and soil analysis. We also need to see if there are any environmental factors involved. My suggestion is to hire a certified Arborist locally.

I broke out a redirect today. It was inconsequential and I knew it was likely to happen. I compounded the forces by using a revolver at a steep angle on a 4" oak branch about 3 ft out. I NEVER would have made that my primary TIP, but it was good to learn the limits of a redirect without any...
