Who has one? I need to write one up and am looking for some kind of template so I am not recreating the whole wheel....maybey just change some spokes;)
It doesn't have a down haul weight. It has a block which 2 parts the load line. Both parts of the line move so a shackle can't be placed above it. I attached a pic with the block circled
The head sets are valuable for jobs outside crane work too.. being able to communicate with ground personnel and even talking with climbers pruning in another tree.. pointing out cuts that need to be made as you look at the tree they are in or visa versa.
Royce,
What I saw when I visited Glenn was him taking pieces I would take in 1 with traditional choke and cut in 3 pieces. He was averaging a piece every 2 minutes. Meaning I would need to do 1 every 6 minutes.
I think a company like yours and mine would find this a valuable tool if we didn't...
What do you see as better with the GMK?
I have a limited experience with one and what I see as draw backs are:
You can't hold a piece vertical once cut
You can tilt the head vertical with the grapple closed
Looks like it was a nice set up. My only criticism is your TIP
The hook with a non locking latch shouldn't be used to tie in to. I also don't like to tie in to other rigging gear. A separate ring in a locking hook is preferred. If you are limited to what the crane has as I think was the case...
I'm with Royce and others. I would like to see it in use to be able to make a fair judgement. I don't see it as being quicker than other set ups out there. Just different, which can be good. What we really need is easily adjustable synthetic slings, that would make a huge difference in the...
A truck like mine doesn't have much weight capacity left the way it's set up. If I switched out the lift axle out to a 20,000# axle I could get much more and then yes I could do away with the log truck for logs or brush. I have made a chip top for mine when I had a big chipping job that worked...
At a further horizontal reach kbooms will win out. At a shorter radius the stick cranes will generally have a greater capacity. This is based on acomparison for the cost of the machine.
Kbooms may have less boom length but can reach further radius with their length when it comes down to...
No I don't. Traditional stick cranes are profitable and efficient. There is a place for them as there is for kbooms. It all depends on the business structure, what works best for each individual company. They both have advantages and disadvantages. It depends on which is a best fit for a...
Booms are better designed for horizontal reach.
They are rated for horizontal and negative boom angles where most stick cranes are not. Especially when the jibs are deployed
Anytime you want to come here your welcome also. I also know of an Altec 26 ton rear mount with remote for sale and less than 3000 hours. The owner passed away if your interested
Yes
Although I have only had that hook for a month since I did a construction job with a free swinging man basket.
But now that I have the hook it is a better way to tie in with the master link which requires a latch that is locked.
2 employees on site then a 3rd showed up with the grapple truck. I think you mean the method of me climbing and operating not the notching method?
It works well for a company with tons of work or with lack of reliable help...some times it is quicker to have a good climber in the tree and me...
