    Olympic Mountains Loop Trip

It is amazing! The diversity of flora is bigger than in the cali redwood forest.....but certainly still no match for a tropical rainforest-----Costa Rica will be the first that I visit---and, for the fauna even moreso than the flora, I'm sure....what with bird photography being so big for me......

    Olympic Mountains Loop Trip

Mike Oxman told me about a Stihl Timbersports Qualifier event in Shelton..called me Friday, the event was Saturday. Knowing he has visited the Olympic many times, even led tree climbing expeditions there, I suggested we head to the rain forest afterwards. Hard to believe I had never visited any...

    Another leaning cottonwood.....

Stump detail, showing the lower cut, faced toward the rigging point to allow the tree to be be stood up, and then the angle cut to get it to drop off the stump.

    Another leaning cottonwood.....

Partially uprooted, actually--a perfect fit for the GRCS --and chipper winch. I love hanging trees and cutting them off at the butt. This one was only about 18 inches on the butt and 60 feet tall.... And the Wraptor powered ascender made for an effortless ascent into the ivy covered cottonwood...

    Kask Visor and Sap

Those visors are way overpriced. I have one on my Petzl, and rarely use it. Of course, it is all scratched up and barely usable. I prefer Bugz and mesh in a glasses style. Could care less whether mesh is OSHA approved or not. When it's raining, glasses are next to useless. Bailey's has the...

    No Crane No Problem

Yeah, I think Robert will be fine. He's green, having only worked a few days... is just 21..... his mom used to work for me, and still helps now and then.....

    No Crane No Problem

And another...... I'd left the GRCS behind, because I didn't look close when I bid it, didn't notice the top had broken... thought it was balanced on the roof, which meant I could have cut the butt out a ways, where it would have just hit the ground.....and the top would have stayed put.

30 plus years one handing a saw !

Look out, Jer, I'm catching up as I have 16 months to go to enter my 43rd year in the trees. And, iirc, I did two hand a climb saw back in 87..... ....... a time or two....

    Fired today!

Cool, Dave. I believe I only saw Alex at one conference..... Was Wulkie's forum the one with that garish green interface? Remember what it was called? In case the wayback machine has a cache of it.....how about the old ISA forum?

    Fired today!

Wulkie = Bob Wulkowicz. One of the most interesting characters on the interwebs.... He was on the early tree forums, the ISA one and others whose names I've forgotten. Circa 1997....

    No Crane No Problem

Here's another, from a last fall. A wickedly leaning cottonwood, worst I've ever seen.... and not from a wind event, according to the customer. Another rigging challenge taken on. This one was a doozy! 22-24" cottonwood, with a lean starting at 10-15 degrees, and sweeping out to close to 80...

    No Crane No Problem

Of course, Daniel. Here's another recent storm job with no crane access, short of a 40 tonner due to the steep driveway which would have required an 80 foot radius. And, the trees weren't big or hard to do sans a crane. I did try a different way to do the task due to the angles of the trees on...
