Did some work today clearing hazard trees at a “glamping” resort. The maintenance manager told me that peak season some of their tents rent out for $900/night! Mostly people coming up from New York, Boston, etc. Bonkers if you ask me. Wish I’d known that before I told him my rate, haha.
Typical...
A buddy sent me these pics of a fire killed Cottonwood in AZ that he was evaluating. He said probably 80-90” at the base; largest he’s seen around there. Unfortunately the park wants it taken down due to a trail running underneath. Seems like very low exposure to me and a beaut of a habitat tree.
Update: finally fixed the leaks. Ended up rebuilding both motors with new seal kits and that was actually the easy part. Getting the motors off was a bit of an ordeal, however. The tapered pin on one of them only came out after finally bringing it to my local auto mechanic and putting it on his...
I didn’t find it to flop around at all, but I just tried it out for the first time today and did a few quick ascents. I used the center hole in the pulley for tending
New tether and cord – thanks @arbsessionsplicing
And thanks to @rico for the recommendation of 24" epicord 9.3 tied in a Petrocan – super smooth, minimal sitback! I can see how this setup would dial in even better with an Apex wrench and easier on/off for switching SRT/MRS...maybe when the...
I recently bought a used Bandit 150 and I've found that both feed wheel motors are leaking a bit of hydraulic fluid. It's not a huge amount, but both drip steadily from around the shaft seal when running. I've been using a rag or catch can underneath for now and trying to decide how to proceed...
I had been thinking about trying Arborwear's Dogwood pants and happened to notice today that they're now 40% off until April 5th. (Only the apron though, not calf wrap). Certainly worth trying for less than $200. I've really been liking their Ironwood pants, but definitely too hot for summer.
A few inches of snow yesterday turned into a couple more inches of rain over night, then back to below freezing early this morning. Turned into a beautiful day though after waking up to ice caked onto every surface. Had to use a blow drier to get the truck bins open.
Speedlining some limbs over...
Thanks for posting this. I opened up the cover on my recently acquired Bandit 150 and extracted about two cups of old grease! Fortunately doesn't seem to have done any damage to the bearing; just some surface rust inside the cover.
That’s a good idea. Plenty of tooth to work with since it’s new, so makes sense if you can just knock the hardened edge off then reset the angle by hand sharpening.
I was hoping that might be the case; would be a pain if the whole tooth is that hard. Maybe I should take it to the local saw shop and have them put the grinder to just that one tooth to get past the hard edge, or maybe I'll persevere and see if I can get through it without wrecking another file.
