72’ backyard lift - CMC vs Platform

Two things: *If you don’t have a climber a lift will make your crane removals more efficient otherwise a lift is too slow, clunky and routinely in the way. Just what we have found. *dont limit yourself to looking at the track units. Look at others as well. We rented a CMC and were happy with it...

Pulling the plug on blue spruce?

We might be a bit south too which allows the crypto’s. Atlas cedar grows pretty big here but I feel has a warm weather issue in our area. Needs to be a bit cooler in the summers. And I don’t think it’s an adequate screen. Another we planted a bunch of a few years back is juniperus chinensis...

Pulling the plug on blue spruce?

We tried the plant health care with some that weren’t in terrible shape with no success. We are pulling the plug on any that clients are sick of looking at! If they must try to save them we will offer but typically the decline due to the lack of success and our honesty about it. I would add...

How's it going so far with the season on your end?

SE PA... buried still, rain is killing us, clients getting restless but pushing through as usual. Having problems closing jobs, but that’s normal for this time of year as everyone around us is starving and cutting their prices to keep guys working. We are busy so no discounts being offered...

    Mini skid steer shopping

That trailer is a 14’. We hardly use it anymore because it was being used to haul all the implements and matts around making it useless as a dump trailer. We still have it but it doesn’t go out every day. We since purchased a 16’ skid steer trailer that is set up with 2 racks (10 each) of track...

    Vermeer Mini skid steer

I would say yes in our market. Our biggest draw back of any trailer is where do you put it in our tight driveways, tight road ways and all. Since I commented on this thread before we have changed our operation up quite a bit (its always a work in progress). We now have a dump truck (550) with...

Any recommendations for a business software that is cost efficient?

We’ve been on Arborgold Sprout since late 2016 I believe. We find it to be a great platform to manage customers, estimates, invoicing and the most important scheduling (both jobs and estimate appointments). The scheduling part is probably the most key feature for me because it tracks approved...

    How to deal with competition?

We deal with them with professionalism and quality work. With a few I refuse to take from their plate as we get along very well. The more we work with them, the more we raise the quality of work in our area and the better the pricing gets. Of course you always get “that guy” that doesn’t...

Where do you guys usually advertise your business?

We advertise our business in the work we do and how we treat our clients. We have social media pages but if you look at the likes/followers, 50% are tree guys (not gonna sell to them). Networking is huge for us. That is by far the biggest bang for zero dollars. Be nice, be in demand the rest...

    GM 4.3 (gas) Napa numbers

Not installed properly maybe??? It can be tough to make sure every grove is right on every pulley. Either way time will tell. If the code is still there disconnect the battery and clear it. If it comes back then it’s a diagnostic thing. Just gotta keep after it to figure it out! I still got a...

    GM 4.3 (gas) Napa numbers

Wonder if it’s just an alternator code then? Or an overheat code if it ran without water circulating for a few minutes. Only things that can be out of line is the tensioner and the alternator I believe.

    GM 4.3 (gas) Napa numbers

normal automotive scanners won’t work. There is no connection that they can access. We tried with our normal mechanic. Good luck

    GM 4.3 (gas) Napa numbers

Chipper knives and mini tracks purchase

I second Gap arborist for the knives. They carry quality knives not the cheap variable crap some of these other guys have. DW tracks - what model? What ever you do insist on standard OEM tracks, aftermarket tracks are lacking significantly. Summit supply out of NJ has given us the best price...
