Well it runs so good the chain never stops moving :(
Needle bearing on the clutch/sprocket is toast. Looks like I will be stopping by the dealer tomorrow to see what they got or get. Certainly an exploded parts view of that area at the least.
So this was the easiest "Not Running" fix yet. Spark plug Boot spring broke. Replaced spring and put new gas in the tank. 3 pulls with the choke on, 3 pulls with the choke off and I have a running chainsaw. Obviously I want to go through the rest of it as time frees up but, a running motor is...
So I took a chance on a saw I will probably never use lol. I picked it up for $200 from a friend who says it ran fine and then all the sudden it stopped running and he could not get it to fire back up. I know these saws are known for wires grounding out and other annoying "old school" ignition...
Early September, not sure how far or how remote yet just starting to talk about it with the wife. I figured I would give you a call or stop by as I know that you have made this trip a few times in your life. Lol
Probably. Call New Tribe though, they are great people and will walk you through some tips that may help. The Onyx is nice but is also in the $5 range.
The wife and I are going for a road trip in Sept. No real plans, just heading up towards Maine. Maybe we go that far maybe not, just winging it as we go. You guys that live that direction or used to live up there should definitely shout out. Just looking for "Can't miss" scenery, food, cool...
Mert's crew is top notch and always a pleasure to work with. If anyone is looking for a small company with a great work ethic and knowledgeable people to learn from then these are your guys. When I have a job that is to big or to complex for myself they are always my first call.
I also have to many saws but just for informational purposes...Are the piston and cylinder Stihl parts or aftermarket? People will want to know before spending money. Nice looking saw by the way.
I still own one of these that never gets used anymore. If you are anywhere near Philly and want to pick it up, it's yours for $600 bucks. That one is not mine, but it looks the same. Older model like the one shown, the newer models have a chute to blow chips but they are also @$4-5K
Does the timing advance still help with the newest computer controlled versions. Mine has not had the timing advanced yet but mine is a few years old so I know helps them.
So decompression valve is gone.
12,500 max rpm
Opened and smoothed both the intake and exhaust. Match muffler opening to exhaust port size.
12,800 max rpm
Put 3 thin louvers and a small tweaking louver on front of muffler
13,200 max rpm
Widened the louvers a little at a time until I liked...
Saw runs fine I guess, first 036 I ever ran. I did put a degrees wheel on it today and got some basic numbers but all they showed me was I don't know anything lol.
Didn't get transfer port numbers yet because I am not sure how to do that yet. I can't see them so I need to measure them. But...
I use mine maybe once a month but still worth every penny. Like many tools in our boxes, we don't always need them but just knowing they're there gives us options.
This little thing, and while we are in there make sure the large metal disk is in carb. It pushes on metering lever. The 2nd pic shows the correct way. Little disk outward.
