Yea, same here. A new toy is exciting but the shiny new part wears off quick.
If I did get one and the cam wore out that fast, my solution would be to have the replacement machined from stainless. Or, perhaps hard anodized aluminum.
Ehh.....stickin to my old stuff for now. There's some days I...
Yes there is but, it doesn't precisely just bolt up. There's a bit of magic to be worked. I don't remember exactly what that entails. And that's what I got in my box of parts. A good OEM 460 jug. I don't recall if i picked up a piston yet or not. A ported 440, with a big bore, and an 8 pin...
There isn't anything the 462 or 462c wouldn't do for me. A year ago there was a shortage in chips so the local dealer had a bunch of 462s to fill the void. I held off knowing I had two 440s home.
To me the 440 is irreplaceable. Yes they can still be found. Usually abused and always a pretty...
Or possibly a shorter climb line with a quick mechanical? ZZ comes to mind or, a Zillion with a long flip line?
Just a thought. I wouldn't want to be a pendulum either but it beats a free fall....I guess. Now I gotta go find some wood to knock on.
The dealers around me hold the same.
No PHO. Pick a bar, I was told. In that particular sale, 201Tc, I'm glad. I ended up with a very LW 14'' bar.
I wish a PHO sale was doable. Then again, it's like buying a replacement bar in advance for when one wears out.
If only dumping half a load of whatever and moving trailer to dump the rest elsewhere, power down is easier on the chassis with the added weight.
I have seen some side mounted dual cylinders get bound up from lifting uneven loads. I prefer the scissor lift too.
Don't forget the used market. I find a lot there and they always sell quick. Good deals on good units.
I'm not ready to get one yet but, I generally find them half priced of new for good conditioned units. I'm pretty much favoring the Big Tex and Diamond C models......I'm also looking for the...
Agreed.... the 500 is totally a different class. I love how responsive the throttle is. I purposely avoided running one for as long as I could. I didn't want to be enticed. Alas, I ran one and I'm hooked.
The 462c is another story. My 440 was also my all time favorite. While searching online...
Last year I was in a rotten red oak. About 50' tall with a 20'' dia base. Roots were still holding well with an inch of punk surrounding the spar. My spurs found solid interior wood wherever I set foot. Tree still had most of its branches of about 2'' dia and larger. Close to a dwelling with no...
I run a 262C for the bigger cuts. It's also my crane saw with a LW 20'' bar. Good power for the weight given.
Up from there, I skip over the 60cc class saws. For just a tad more weight, a MS440 or a 462 would be the go to with a 28'' LW. My 440 is down for a rebuild, and I don't have a 462 yet...
I probably would have climbed those. Like said about the roots, my mind would be focused on any wobbling of the spar the whole time. As long as my spurs could reach solid wood, and the tree remained relatively still, take it out one chunk at a time. With no spar movement, and a tag line, I'd opt...
I'm in agreeance with a small ball of sap sticking the mechanism for free fall. Falling out afterwards for staging a mystery as to what went wrong. Happens to my ZZ in that sticky sap. Just enough to make it jumpy and slip some rope a bit.
Ghostice, I realize you're no novice. It's just the...
Suspenders for sure. I keep a 4-5' lanyard for all non-top handled saws. I'm mostly found with an MS 261, and on occasion a 66 with a 36'' bar. I love the long lanyard. Keeps the 20'' bar on the 261 wieldy. Same with the 36''.
It's also great for hanging the saw on leaders or branches.
I'm...
To the original OP's post, I donated a sad face. Presented to the chipper.
Poor thing.
Years ago my friend was finishing a job and the HO asked if he would chip a handful of firewood rounds that had been sitting in a pile for some time. I wasn't there and I'm not privy of any other knowledge...
I have 0 trust in all we are exposed to. We are subjected to so many toxins daily....
Something that lasts on your clothes for 3 months is something I don't want to wear.
I'll take my chances with the damn ticks.
