One challenge when you get good equipment is keeping it in good condition. Also thefts are worse than usual; I stopped by Tractor Supply and they were keeping large equipment all behind fencing now. I saw a worker looking enviously at the back of my wagon which made me a lot more conscious of...
I just wanted to give a strong thumbs up to member here, "chipper 1"! He gave me a great deal on a power saw, answered all my questions and shipped it out in a timely fashion! I would have no reservations dealing with him in the future!
That's just dumb unless there was a reason for the test requirement. Many of the box stores were screening for all drugs and background, even pot and thc. 50% or so were failing at Home Depot when I got hired there. They stopped doing that this year, may be temporary. As a result they are...
I've been mostly in the laboring trades since the 1980s. I was thinking about the businesses that I've worked for. A lot of the men have been decent trying the best they can. Here in the suburban NY area, most corporate men do not want their kids to become landscapers, tree men or take up...
Rarely have I seen good company acquisitions, often the buyer has more money that the type of good sense that comes from years of stressful work and management.
Bartlett has a good local reputation, they run a local arboretum with arborist and horticultural training courses.
The other side...
Hope this finds you and yours doing well with the ongoing COVID situation.
Just a quick note that we have a great Branch Manager opportunity at our New Milford, CT location.
Thought I would share in case you might know of any interested talent in your network.
You are welcome to share my...
Home Depot requires someone to go out to measure for flooring and other installation jobs, customers are just not in reality usually on what is required. And it is usually impossible to get perspective with photos.
As a seller on ebay, the 3% forfeit that paypal has been doing with sellers gets expensive on returns, not that big a deal with a hundred bucks, but definitely with a thousand or more.
If you use paypal, not for "friends and family" unless they are, you are double protected also with the credit card chargeback option if and only if there is fraud. Most issues can be resolved over the phone.
Another issue is stolen goods, the seller becomes critical on that. Pawn shops...
I agree, another dumb tool with a stronger sales force behind it than efficacy of what it is supposed to do. Remember "the stickler" a screw type splitter that mounted on a car axle? Dumb and dumber, but I didn't tell the customer it wasn't going to help him much or about the recommended...
Labor is the problem, I don't know if others get tired of working alone; and big wood can all be processed, just tires out more quickly. And I got tired of calling Labor Ready for workers or going down to the railroad tracks to pick up likely illegals about 15 years ago. Got as much wood as...
I can't imagine how complicated it would be to get the original schematic on a part like that, then finding someone who knows how to plug it in to the right 3D printer, this is just not practical at all....
Used recoils and other parts are readily available, and Husky/Jonsered have...
Which part? Some of the parts for these Jonsereds are available. Also I don't see 3D printing as practical for most saw applications when there are much less complicated solutions.
I have this 2077 Jonsered that has been a challenge to make work, was running well until recently, recoils seem to fail. Sam a friend who is handy thought a solution on the recoil so that it would engage properly would be to put a washer underneath the pawls:
Here are pics of the saw with...
Just ran approximate dimensions through an online calculator: http://www.woodweb.com/cgi-bin/calculators/calc.pl
At 40 inches and two feet diameter red oak is over 1000#, I would have to measure more accurately. I have never dealt with wood I can't move. The contractor was more of an...
The bottom line with big wood is that large equipment is usually used to dumpster/tub grinder it away. If customers do not want to pay for that, they look around for some willing worker or sucker to process it for less.
There is no way to bust up 1000# logs without first quartering it, etc...
Looks like it has excellent feedback: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Fiskars-X27-6-3-lbs-36-in-Super-Splitting-Axe-78846935/202681680
I've worked with a lot of hydraulic and flywheel type units like the Supersplit and nothing beats the right tool for the job.
However with knotty, gnarly and...
Around here firewood is 200 plus a cord, city inmover, so probably not a big firewood burner, but you never know.
Big cost would have been dumpstering away big wood so figured splitting was better.
Between saw and wedge/maul should be able to process remaining big logs, probably worth more...
