Got some in. Looks like a good pattern for blending in. Much better than Yale Bandit. Seemed a bit tough to splice. Very tight cover.

Thanks Brocky, cant hurt to give it a try. Been trying to watch the formation closely. I start to notice it as soon as I bury the core inside the cover. It gets worse from there. I am not clear how the crossover could be causing this. I do seat the crossover pretty tightly, follow up with a...

Gave it a go. Left one end attached at the eye. Did not have enough to make the 90 degree move and go back up toward the splice. Nothing to tie it off to so I just did a few more "back through the same hole at an angle" stitches then cut it off. Was a bit of a challenge threading the needle...

I tried to order his book but they are out of stock and no ETA. Is the invisible stitch similar to a standard Samson lock stitch but going back in the same hole @ a different angle? Might have to just do stitching instead of whipping and stitching. Marlow whipping twine is not cheap.... Some...

Thanks N.e Tree, I did, and can see how that could be causing the kink. Guessing there is nothing that can be done to prevent?

A few more leashes from Vortex. Getting better at whipping/stitching and a lot faster. Still getting that weird kink opposite the bury side on the larger eyes. Starting to think it is normal as I see it in other peoples splices too.

    OP splice tips

Interesting. From my readings here I had the understanding OP was just a standard Class 1 splice. http://www.treebuzz.com/forum/threads/ocean-polyester-eye-and-eye.23821/ Still very new to this but I thought a class 2 rope/splices involved brummels (like your beeline video) or a special kind...

    OP splice tips

One end is easy assuming you are just working with the end of a long piece. The issue I have with making them sort is pulling enough of the core out to get to mark 3 on the second eye. I can only push the cover so far back against the already made eye. Been debating buying that series, just...

    OP splice tips

I read a tip on here that helped me a lot, might even have been from ARLO.... http://www.treebuzz.com/forum/threads/splicing-velocity-and-tachyon.27903/ Why are you trying to bury the core so far? Samson's instructions say just 1/3 fid. What is the finished length you are going for...

    Treemotion bridge material?

Strange that a rope is so hard to obtain. Even though I don't expect to burn through a lot of replacement bridges, it was a consideration when choosing a saddle. The bridge on my New Tribe Onyx looks to be this stuff (Teufelberger Platinum 10.5). Sold by the foot. Any reason it could not be...

Mechanical Advantage Kits- the Tom Hoffman U- Rig Kit, or something else?

The 2.0 double is a hefty pulley. I have been looking into this as well. I traded a few emails to TS this past week about stocking the P21/22 singles and doubles. The Omni 1.5 double is not prussik minding so my guess is that's why he doesn't used one on each end. Don't see any reason why a...

    Samson fid chart typo?

They sort of explain the math here. Top right of page 2. Short fid for 1/4"-1/2" is 37.5% of a fid. Short fid for 9/16"-3/4" is 30% of a fid. http://www.samsonrope.com/Documents/Splice%20Instructions/Tools%20Required%20for%20Splicing_SEPT2012_WEB.pdf

Made a few Whoopie slings. Only loosely followed instructions/made up the measurements. These 3/4" Tenex-Tec will be used as a tree anchor for a slack line. The small ones are made from NE Dynaglide. Not sure what I will the small ones for, prob just rigging tarps for shade. Used the...

Curiosity got to me, so I cut open a few of the larger eyes where the kinks were. Found that the kink was due to the core taper being pulled into the eye/core being cut off to short. Lesson learned. Struggled on a few attempts to bury the core into the cover (OP 8mm) so I decided to cut open...

Yes, milking the cover from the cross over to the throat, then a tug. Feels like the kink is in the core to me, maybe getting the core twisted a bit. I will keep at it. Have some more Vortex on the way.
