Stihl 63PS Chains with 14” Bar - SOLD

Thank you for the interest. This bar and chain would prob fit on your 194 as long long as your drive sprocket is 3/8. I dont think the drive sprockets are guage specific.

Who can steer me towards a good wire fid?

If it was a Yale video, I think they used a leg of a “Yale Grip”. I started a thread about soft fid materials and received some good suggestions.

    What am I missing here?

Good tips Brocky, thank you. Did some XTC-24 yesterday and tried not pulling the crossover so tight, it was an improvement. I have posted this video before but it is a good one by Yale for their XTC-24 splice. and another good one from a member here.

    What am I missing here?

Some mechanical tension may complete that splice… Other than the taper pattern, you could try making mark 2 on the core longer. Try a half fid instead of a short. May end up with some imbalance between the core and cover but should complete easier and you can just trim the other end of...

    What am I missing here?

I have cut off a few failures too…. You dissect it to see if there was a snag etc?

    What am I missing here?

You able to back out the core and try again? The bunching occasionally happens to me when I dont keep enough tension on the core during the bury.

Current 70 cc Class Saw Quality

So it sounds like there are good options for a replacement if I had to buy a new one.... I will think about it a bit more. Appreciate all the comments.

Current 70 cc Class Saw Quality

I am just a hobbyist chainsaw owner. The 460 was my first chainsaw…. Mostly had this saw for fun during storm clean up needs in neighborhoods with large oak and pine trees. Moved from the area and now just have cedar and mesquite around. A 16" bar on the 346xp takes care of all that. I do have a...

    Show off them splices

I learned from Arlo's video. I bury the core first after doing a longer taper on it. I just leave a inch or so of the core folded through the fid while pulling through (and obviosuly cut off the pulled strands).

    Climate Change

For those concerned, you should just become a licensed weather modification technician. Start making a real difference by changing the climate on purpose instead of accidentally by breathing, farting, and using a gas-powered leaf blower. Of course, there are never unintended consequences from...

Current 70 cc Class Saw Quality

I have been storing a ported MS460 for a few years now and will probably be 5+ more years before I find myself in need of a saw that size again. All my current needs are met with a ported 346XP that I plan to keep. I bought the saw new. I start it every few months and it fires right up. I am...

    Throw line splice

Looks good. I make all sorts of things from spliced throw line. Soft shackles, mini whoopie slings, eye to eye slings, etc.

Who can steer me towards a good wire fid?

IMO, its better to get straight sections than a coil.

Who can steer me towards a good wire fid?

For tight eyes, I would get a 3' section of wire from mcmaster-carr. Heat in middle then fold in half. Will try and post a link later. https://www.mcmaster.com/products/music-wire/ https://www.mcmaster.com/9667K22 I would start .045-.050" for 1/2" ropes.

    10mm sirius and samson dynasorb

I generally eyeball the taper as well/usually do half the cover strands before inserting the cover into the core then finish the taper when its sticking out of the core. To me, the key measurements are the number of cover strands between the eye/crossover and how many strands between the...
