Differentiating Who is Liable For What with Crane Contractors

How do you clearly define who is liable for what in certain situations when contracting with a crane company? A few things that were mentioned to me…. - Establishing a contract that details these scenarios. - The crane company adding me as “additional insured” on their insurance. I...

    Short vs. Long Bridge?

Currently climbing on the Petzl Sequoia (non-srt version) and haven’t made any adjustments. Using the bridge as is, and don’t have any complaints. Personally, I think I prefer a bridge somewhere in-between. Definitely don’t want one too long as I feel like that could make it harder to adjust...

Don’t you just love working alongside main roads…

“Do you do tree work?” Nope, we’re a moving company. We move trees from their current home to the local dump.

Don’t you just love working alongside main roads…

Idk why this irritates me so much. Maybe it’s because I’m the kind of driver that if I see someone on the side of the highway I try to slow down and move over; or if I see a truck trying to turn or do something I give them time; maybe it’s because I used to drive a truck for a living. Today we...

Fruit tree holding on by a thread, client wants to get another year out of it. Thoughts?

I see what you mean. I didn’t think it was as loose as it might look in that pic. That’s something I try to be careful of.

Fruit tree holding on by a thread, client wants to get another year out of it. Thoughts?

@southsoundtree What is that red trailer you’re towing (if that’s your truck)…regular one or a dump?

Fruit tree holding on by a thread, client wants to get another year out of it. Thoughts?

Just worked in some similar to those today. Maybe not as big of wood, but fairly tall for a typical orchard tree. Neglected, lots of deadwood, etc. 14ft orchard ladder got me only partially up there, then I climbed higher.

How do you turn down work?

100%. There’s been multiple instances where someone says just that, and even have had a few tell me they will keep me in mind if they ever have work more tailored to what I do, or ask for a quote right then and there. I know if the roles were reversed and I was looking to hire someone, I would...

How do you turn down work?

On the topic of referrals, there’s only about 1-3 other companies in my area I’ll refer out. Two of the three are usually for certain removal projects that I might not want to get involved with for whatever reason, the other is generally for plant health care. For some of the reasons y’all...

Fruit tree holding on by a thread, client wants to get another year out of it. Thoughts?

Aside from the post / wood options or cabling / rods for bracing fruit trees, do you think there are some situations where a chord similar to that could be used to add support to a small long gangly limb or branch that doesn’t have a lot of weight to it but could be susceptible to breaking from...

Replace suspension in kask super plasma?

I’ve been climbing with a Kask Super Plasma plus visor and attached ear muffs for years and am satisfied. Just bought a new one I think it was last year, this one with Sena installed. I did check out Protos and I know they’re popular, but with the Sena install I think the price was going to be...

What kind of chord is that @southsoundtree (the yellow one)? And is the purpose of that to train the branches to a certain way?

Fruit tree holding on by a thread, client wants to get another year out of it. Thoughts?

Also slightly more off topic, I was wondering if anyone includes some sort of clause in their contract or estimate regarding not being able to guarantee long-term tree health after pruning or not being liable for tree issues, etc.? To be more specific, I was thinking about situations where you...

Fruit tree holding on by a thread, client wants to get another year out of it. Thoughts?

Doesn’t pertain to this particular discussion but kind of related in regards to how resilient some trees can be. Years back in my town there was a small-medium sized tree that uprooted. Well someone lifted it back into place and secured it so it would stay upright, and fast forward to now it...

Fruit tree holding on by a thread, client wants to get another year out of it. Thoughts?

I wonder if digging post style holes and burying the board or post (depending what is actually used) at least 12 inches may suffice? Could put some rock or small pieces of concrete paver slabs at the bottom of the hole and maybe even around the sides as an alternative to pouring concrete? Or I...
