    Pelican Rope

Anybody have experience with the Pelican Rope tree viper 24 strand. I like that it’s made in USA and it’s cool looking. I’ve only used Samson Hyperclimb but, looking for something more SRT friendly but still DRT useable.

We’re ok in middle TN with just a bunch of rain. East TN flooding, Nolichucky Dam issues and other damage.

Which to choose? Compact utility tractor VS Mini Skid VS Gehl

I have the 25hp Yanmar SA325 with grapple and PTO stump grinder. I love it. I use a Wallenstein FX-85 PTO skidder on the forestry project. Kubota 3902. I’m telling you it’s a beast. It will jerk an entire 100ft 24” DBH out quick. My 2 cents.

Middle TN may get wind gusts to 40 mph and 5 inches of rain but, that kinda depends where it makes landfall. It’s suppose to get here tomorrow night. Probably flooding.

    Chainsaw and handsaw left/right

Update. I put my chainsaw on my left this week and kept my lanyard/handsaw on right. I like it better so far. i don’t have to switch hands to start. @moss tip of leaving scabbard on is working…what do you do with it when it comes off? Thanks for the discussion.

    Today....

Challenging Ash for me, that already lost the other codominant. Stuff on all sides with smaller than I like drop zone. I don’t like the way that Ash pops but, done now. One of those learning jobs where you tell yourself, I’ll do it differently next time. I actually had first time helper but...

    EAB non restricted treatment

I’ve read up on Imidacloprid. Not for hire, I only have 1 Ash. When asked, I at least would like to point them towards a good source. Then they can decide if they want to do something on their own or look for someone qualified to treat.

    EAB non restricted treatment

I’ve been reading up on EAB. I’ve found Ash trees near me that don’t seem to have been attacked “yet “. Yesterday, I looked at a white Ash. Too bad it has to come down because codominant split damaged the standing side. If I get the job, I’ll inspect it. A few weeks ago I mentioned in another...

    Atlanta Botanical Gardens Visited

I didn’t. I’m usually engrossed in the activities I do, so I’m in the moment. I try to capture it in my mind. We will definitely revisit during a spring bloom. I would recommend it for anyone that enjoys this type of activity.

    Atlanta Botanical Gardens Visited

My wife and I spent the day there on Thursday. I'll have to say I'm thoroughly impressed by the size and quantity of the trees in the Storza woods exhibit. The old growth trees just were so cool. I'm not sure what's up with the climbing ropes and throw lines in several of the massive trees...

Which to choose? Compact utility tractor VS Mini Skid VS Gehl

I’m late to the discussion but @Brando CalPankian bought a new Yanmar too. I got one because I had a Baumalight stump grinder. My work consists of tree work grapple, dirt work and stump grinding. I also use it for tilling and moving stuff. To me it makes sense to move around an 2200 lb machine...

Do you always wear your helmet?

I got popped today from a small 1-1/2inch by 4ft long maple branch that a vine in the falling tree pulled out. Glad I had it on but, I always wear mine climbing or felling.

    Chainsaw and handsaw left/right

I should have included lanyard in the discussion. I have that issue with my lanyard. I like it on my dominant right and the sharp saw there concerns me.

    Chainsaw and handsaw left/right

I’m right handed BTW. Just curious where you carry your saws when climbing. Left/right inside leg you get my question. I’m carrying my handsaw on left leg handle butt forward and 194T kinda right rear hip. I’m thinking I need better/easier carry. What works for you?

Views. Here is one of mine. Lets see yours.....so many great views out there.

This is only my view when I’m working on the forestry project. Before, during and after. I’m selectively cleaning up the view from the ridge. I purposely left smaller trees to block a building or two.

    Is this a green ash?

I was asked to look at the tree to see what I thought about its health. I was dumbfounded because there are about 10-12 mature ash and no EAB that I can detect. I’m trying to find an organization that can assist the owner in protecting this small grove. This isn’t a process in my wheelhouse...

    Is this a green ash?

I think it’s a green ash based on the bark.
