    Oh my handyman and landscapers!

I hear what you’re saying but, a lot of people don’t understand or care. It’s all about the money, then when they or their neighbors get involved in that situation, they say “maybe I should have checked their insurance or called a professional. I really want to say I told you so, but, I don’t...

    Oh my handyman and landscapers!

I don’t have to depend on tree work to get by. This is irritating. I’ll bet you folks that do run into this issue everyday. I looked at a job yesterday of a dead oak about 25ft tall. It had been topped by a tree guy and of course it died from the 2ft branches dead headed. It was leaning over...

    Two Rope Climbing

I will use an SRS and MRS in questionable trees or if I need to work a wide canopy. Here’s a situation where 2 systems were necessary. There wasn’t anything above and the tree in a fence row was reaching for the sun. I’ve never used or rented a lift or bucket and the septic tank was below. The...

Working on a topped tree questions.

I looked at the tree again. I said decline but I’m just seeing some head cut decaying from the topping. A few interior branches dead from the trunk. BTW My neighbor has a completely see through hollow maple still standing and growing that is probably 60” plus dbh. I’ve worked on maples still...

Working on a topped tree questions.

Hey folks. I’ve been sick and just getting back to this. I saw some typical rot on the heading cuts. Some has migrated down the inner branches. At the point where they all meet at the trunk has rot too. I think the tree is in decline. Even if a restoration or pollard pruning was done, I still...

Working on a topped tree questions.

I didn’t top this Silver (I think) Maple. The owner wants the new growth cut off again. Is it too late to structure this or is it doomed to a lifetime of topping? I’ve studied a lot of Gillman and I think this falls into the too late to fix category, plant a better tree. Would you top it or...

    6-8” chipper

I’m watching this. IDK anything about chippers but, it seems like it may be my next purchase. Used and I usually only do small stuff.

    New Grapple by Reg Coates

I did some more playing around with it. It’s kinda like anything else that you need to practice with. I still haven’t bought a new rope for it. I showed it around at Geezers and got all positive comments.

    Certified tree climber certification evaluator

Trying to find CPR and I guess I need the first aid part too. Red Cross has OSHA approved. I really would travel and pay someone that can sign me off on AR but, I may do it at ISA and ITTC Memphis. I’m waiting for details to come. But…what’s y’all’s opinion… should I just go for the CA instead?

    Maybe? Memphis is closer.

    Certified tree climber certification evaluator

Anybody on here one? I’m toying with the notion of CTC or CA because I believe I should never stop learning. It’s just a personal goal and doesn’t matter in my part time work. I’m having trouble finding an event or anything close geographically. Is there anyway to maybe go train and test with...

    New Grapple by Reg Coates

I think a biner is fine for a canopy with some open branches. Anything like a carabiner or big ended eye in small stuff would get hung up. It’s same principle as a throw bag in tight spaces.

    New Grapple by Reg Coates

I used it again for a traverse. A few more things I discovered. I think a tight eye splice is better. My splice is sewn with the thread wrapped around the outside and shrink wrap. It gets hung on twigs and tight unions. I covered the whole thing with heat shrink to see if it helps. You...
