    Tractor, skid steer, or excavator?

I like my SV100 for being a maximized mini… I still wanted a swing boom for more options in tight areas.

Let’s talk about hook lift trucks

What don’t you like about the control cables? I’m at almost 7 years on my Swaploader using cable controls… two chassis, zero issues sometimes punching way out of its class. My first guess is road salt/corrosion causing issues.

Let’s talk about hook lift trucks

It it worth the hassle of a cab over? The only cab over I've had was a Mack MRU.... Unless something comes along to change my mind, I won't be getting another cabover. The Isuzu has a up to a 50* cut angle, the M2 106 has up to a 55*. The bumper to back of cab is roughly 2' shorter on the...

    Tractor, skid steer, or excavator?

Excavators are great for handling material, not great for forwarding material, loaders are the opposite, tractors are neither. I upgraded excavators last spring and sold my old excavator last month. That excavator was bought new in 2013, and was my oldest piece of equipment. Excavators are...

    Battery ground saws

You like power and torque.... but you mention a 261 with a 20" bar. If we're just talking typical cut speed, the Milwaukee will cut faster than a ported 261, but it'll weigh 1/3 more, ~15lb vs ~20lb. We keep 3 gas saws on the truck, two 500i and a 201, all ported by XS. For typical cutting...

    Battery ground saws

No, all my saws follow that logic. Milwaukee uses a different chain but otherwise it keeps the inventory simple. If I duplicate my Milwaukee saws, unless some specific need comes up, they’ll stay running the same bars, to simplify inventory.

    Battery ground saws

Yep, our standard is 14” on a top handle, on rear handles we go 20”, 28”, then 36”. Whenever the time comes I’ll probably convert the Milwaukee pole saw to match the top handle. I assume I resemble that remark.

    Battery ground saws

I overheated one battery last week with temps in the 70’s in the dual battery saw. Non Forge batteries overheat much easier with their tabbed batteries and tighter build. Last summer I overheated an 8 and 12Ah HO batteries within maybe 10 minutes of each other. The 6Ah Forge batteries work...

    Battery ground saws

You can also lean on the saw more in high, which would increase the load on the motor and increase battery drain. It’s not hard or wildly unusual to overheat a battery, even a Forge. I overheated an 8 last week with the dual battery saw. Milwaukee batteries don’t balance which can definitely...

    Battery ground saws

The MS362 and MS661 have the same chain speed...by your logic they should cut at the same speed with the same bar length. High mode definitely cuts faster than low. My hypothesis is with no load on the chain, the battery will last the same time spinning in high or low. I don't try to maximize...

Sweet gum on property line, HOs disagree on limb removal

If neighbors don’t get along and agree with the plan, I don’t work on the property line. This concept applies here.

    Battery ground saws

@Phil I only use Forge batteries, primarily 6ah in the top handle and primarily 8 and 12ah in the dual battery. Aside from when I first used it as a novelty, the only time I use the low power mode is when I forget to push the button after swapping batteries, or if it times out. I get paid to...

    Battery ground saws

I keep a 201, 2x 500i, and Milwaukee's top handle and dual battery saws on the truck. I really like using the dual battery aloft vs having to crank a 500i in the basket. I only use it in the high power mode, it can really pour out the man glitter. Either electric saw can chew through the...

Let’s talk about hook lift trucks

@Treetopflyer The tag axle is just an axle that affords greater ground clearance through its high lift suspension and smaller tires. The tag axle on the grapple truck is fantastic at hanging the truck up, making me use the differential locks and power diverter in the silliest of...

Let’s talk about hook lift trucks

I only have one hook lift, I built the first truck, used it for 3 years, then built the second truck reusing the hoist. I really like the truck's setup, turning like an overgrown pickup but having a mountain of payload capacity.

    Kubota SCL1000

I'm probably an oddity, but a couple years ago I was wanting a small forwarder, ran the gamut of machines vs what I wanted functionality wise... ended up deciding on an ASV RT40 with cab/ac. 2 years later I'm still very happy with it and would replace it with the same if this one died. Travel...

Anyone using an aluminum dump trailer?

How big of a trailer are you talking about that would save a few thousand pounds vs steel? There's no way I'd want an aluminum trailer for handing debris. Pay a hefty premium for aluminum, then beating it ragged sounds like a no win situation.
