The 63 year old was a solid second behind on this pick taking 7 seconds to remove it from the pick. I haven't looked at the other clips from this job, but I didn't see a pick that took longer than 10 seconds to unhook the sling from.
I have a Lariat.
This was the first pick I found on my computer, from a job this past Monday.... from the time he reached the sling until it was loose was 6 seconds...
$3k for rope slings with prussik adjusters seems like I’m missing something.
We do most of our tree picks with a single choker, sometimes two. Friday we used 3 for the first time in forever getting a broken top and a tree off a house.
That is unfortunate… it’ll also be you if you don’t take care of yourself.
A bid from yesterday, $700 minimum to clear the driveway leaving the debris adjacent on site. The bid took longer than doing the job would have took. Didn’t get the bid, but no one else had either as of our deadline...
Here’s the dirt work mostly done, working on getting 20-30 loads of millings delivered, it’ll be crushed limestone under the slab and possibly on top of the millings.
We have one bit of business to get handled then we're building a shop and covered parking for everything, the dirt work is mostly done. The recycling yard is the next hill over. All in we'll spend probably 3-6 months revenue between the land and building before it's all said and done.
We have minimums based on the area (higher for adjacent towns) that makes the process more simple. We have 30% lower minimums for in town work if the job can be done with a pickup/trailer/small machine by a groundie. That gives us some flexibility when bidding and removes the decision making...
For pruning, the T540 or 542’s chain speed will be nice. We have T540s and Milwaukee’s top handles for electric top handles.
For light ground saw the 540 rear handle is great. For removals I’ll use the Milwaukee dual battery aloft, it’s easier to crank than a 500.
You’ll cause more displacement of soil running on the edges.
Our larger excavator is 91” wide, we run it, the grapple truck, and crane on 2 mats wide, either 12 or 16’ overall width. That gets the weight in the middle of the mat for the best floatation.
Nothing crazy, but good fit and finish and clean build are important to me.
Probably:
Freightliner M2112 or SD114, possibly an extended cab, but probably standard.
Detroit 13L
Allison Transmission, maybe the DT12V, but probably Allison.
At least 100 useable gallons of fuel capacity for the...
Buyers makes a variety of product lines when it comes to boxes.
This is what I have used for going on 4 years and will be ordering more of.

I have a single axle with a tag hook lift truck and a tandem with a tag grapple truck.
Fuel economy is a function of weight, speed, and acceleration, aerodynamics are a brick either way. 350hp automatic on the hook lift, 505hp and 12 speed automated on the grapple truck. Empty they weigh...
Which toolboxes do you have? I have their barn door Pro Series smooth aluminum boxes and have zero complaints. 24"x24" boxes, 4x4' and one 3' between the two trucks. Going to add another to the grapple truck and one on the lift at some point, potentially soon.
I've never ran one, but I've checked them out, used to think they were interesting. The shape of the front of the subframe costs some real estate in the body. The dead lift nature using a common winch is pretty meh.
It's like a heavy duty DR Power version of a roll off.
I ended up building a...
This is the one I bought.
