I hear Siberian Elm does not hinge well, but from what I can find for videos online, it hinges better than the eucalyptus that I am used to. Thoughts? Thanks.
Stuff is so brittle here, I have found I can’t get too greedy with swinging limbs. Go mostly with gravity, only small redirect, or it will break and you’ll get nothing.
That one I was trying to induce some swing away from my work platform. I don’t think it swung away much, but it didn’t come closer like it wanted to.
I don’t limb much, but when I do, it’s usually a removal and I usually undercut, top cut and they pop right off. Unless I want it to hang/swing...
That dark brown stump I posted the pic of was ironbark I think. Second time I’ve cut it. Both times I had head lean and still had to drive the dickens out of 3 aluminum wedges. Must be strong stuff.
Safety chain has double rakers, etc. I think you are referring to semi chisel which has a round point. May or may not be Safety. Cuts slower but is more durable.
You can lower the rakers until it grabs, but you might not like it in hard wood. Also, once you actually get it sharp, it may be...
