Inexpensive Carolina logger boots when spiking. Mine have steel toes in addition to the steel shanks. They're holding up well and I was quite comfortable in them during my longest single time aloft ... 6 hours in a tree before touching back down. They are a bit heavy, but comfort is king...
Manual pole saw & pruner like THIS ONE is all I use. That logrite model looks like it's limited on how thick of a branch it can cut through. With extra poles, I have made and used mine as long as 24' high ... add my reach and we're talking about 28' above the ground.
You guys aren't capitalists, are you? The only reason an entity will venture into a risk (new item R&D) is if there's a potential to get a return on investment. Granted, a small or one-man operation may undertake such risks, but they typically have little or nothing to lose. I've witnessed...
I just realized the OP is from Robbinsville, NC. I've stayed at the 2-Wheel Inn there ... where each room comes with a "garage" just big enough to squeeze in two bikes. A photo of me made it to Killboy's weekly highlights with the caption, "Bet this puckered a few!" (My motorcycle looks like a...
Earlier this week, there was an eBay listing for 1/2" 6000# strength "Tubbs" rope in 150' lengths selling at $19.95 each with free shipping. I think the seller mis-priced his ad because the sale has since been closed, and similar rope is selling at $69.95 from other sellers. I received an...
I never take one aloft while climbing ... too bulky ... use my chainsaw or Silky. On a rare occasion, I have pulled a pole saw (non-motorized) up to where I'm working. If you can get close enough to use loppers, you should be able to whack it off with a hand saw.
Seems extreme when you consider the 30,000# motor homes (with air brakes) towing a few thousand more pounds which travel across the country and into Canada and Mexico ... most driven by operators having nothing more than a basic driver's license with no endorsements, and no DOT numbers. I used...
Agreed that it would be a disaster, but I tend to think most of the Joe Shmoes would not make this large of an investment if they're buying rope from the big box stores.. I also will go out on a limb (pun intended) and agree with your groundies that you're on old guy climbing trees. :D
I still climb in a conventional manner at times ... either MRS or SRS ... but I'll use my Wraptor when I can. At 58 y.o., saving energy until I get up to the work site is greatly appreciated. I don't use the Wraptor when using two climbing lines suspended between two TIPs. And yes, I fall...
Instruction manual says, "Insert approved Ronin Static Line Rope in 9mm or 10mm diameter through the rope inlet feed hole." The Ronin rope is 10mm, so it would seem a climbing-approved 9mm or 10mm static rope could be used. All my climbing ropes are 13mm, but this is not a deal breaker to me...
Selected "Don'ts" from the Ronin Lift instructions:
Do not expose the device to high temperatures or high humidity.
[That pretty much eliminates use in the southeast USA.]
Do not submerge Ronin Lift in water. Ronin Lift is not waterproof.
[How about water resistant? Many...
How about kryo-treating? Numerous manufacturing facilities get extended life between sharpenings of drill bits and milling tools, plus kryo-treating is all the way through versus heat treat and quench which affects only about 0.010"to 0.015" of the outer surface. I recall reading an article...
