ronin powered ascender

That device is hoax as you guys mentioned. It would be a pretty difficult to engineer something that small with today's technology.

The contest winners were announced on Facebook Live 1/16/2017

The winners were:

Claire Apuan
Dustin Davis
Nick Braun
Anna Halonen
Jacob Wells

We will be doing some demos with a couple Arborist in May. I will make sure to follow up with the videos.

A big congratulations on your win. We look forward to using the device.

If there was slack in the line during descent than there was no tension on the rope. You do need to create light tension with the line to create the capstan effect on an ascent that can be accomplished by lightly pulling on the rope to start off. On the way down you do not need any tension on the line.

We wanted to announce the opening of our shop! This is your opportunity to preorder the Ronin Lift personal rope ascender at a phenomenal discount with only 50% down and the rest due at delivery. As we get closer to our initial delivery date in August prices will go up so act quickly and share this promotion with your social networks.

Selected "Don'ts" from the Ronin Lift instructions:
 Do not expose the device to high temperatures or high humidity.
[That pretty much eliminates use in the southeast USA.]
 Do not submerge Ronin Lift in water. Ronin Lift is not waterproof.
[How about water resistant? Many tree climbers work in the rain.]
 Do not allow liquid, small particles or other foreign debris to enter the device.
[I assume sawdust is considered small particles of foreign debris.]

I was really excited when this was first announced. But the 'sealed black box' element of this product has me in a wait and see mode. We have not been given a real look at this thing yet.

I see lots of questions. We like that if I miss one please let me know.

1. Our instruction manual is pretty conservative.

Operating temperature range is ambient outside temp of 15F - 125F. We can add this to the manual.

The device is moisture resistant which means all electronics are coated IP55. This means the device can be run in the rain or in humidity. Wet rope can be run through the device. If you run in these conditions very little water can get into the device. However if you were going to clean the device we would not want you to use a garden hose. So the main point is to keep it out of extreme water conditions.

The Ronin Lift cannot be run submerged in water.

We want to try to eliminate junk and debris in motor. As the motor turns it pushes air out to cool it. The air being pushed out will keep debris out but we want to eliminate those vents getting clogged. Finally we want to eliminate any unessary debris going gear train this means we don't want rocks or heavy mud being pulled through causing device and rope wear. This device does require some care and handling like any mechanical device.

2. Mid-line attachable is a popular discussions because some individuals want it others don't. We plan on introducing a mid-line attachable device in 2018 for the customers seeking that feature.

3. High quality Arborist rope will work fine. Ronin Rope is not required for the device but you will get the best performance from static rope with a kermantel sheath.

Finally we have some demo lined up with arborist coming up so I will make sure they provide their feedback on the forum.

Thanks guys and let me know if I missed any questions.

Is the Ronin rope a requirement for the Ronin lift? Or other quality arborist lines of a certain diameter accepted?
Instruction manual says, "Insert approved Ronin Static Line Rope in 9mm or 10mm diameter through the rope inlet feed hole." The Ronin rope is 10mm, so it would seem a climbing-approved 9mm or 10mm static rope could be used. All my climbing ropes are 13mm, but this is not a deal breaker to me.

OTOH, mid-line attachable would be nice since you must burn up some of the battery's charge to feed rope through the device. Not a big deal ... I'm just one of those who goes a little overboard when attempting to conserve battery charge. Got that from the OEM battery in my motorcycle being susceptible to overly discharged just from leaving the headlight on for a couple minutes.

We need to update the manual to reflect that you can use between 9-11mm rope. Any approved static climbing rope can be used.

Also you will use very little battery when feeding rope through with no load. The 15min continuous use for the standard battery is only when you are applying a load of 200lbs. Less load will generate a longer battery cycle.

Many have asked for midline attachable so we will provide that option in early 2018.

We appreciate everyone's feedback. You guys have been a great community.

Let me know if you guys have any other questions or comments.
