Has anyone hired or contracted a prt time mechanic that works on your stuff at your shop on a regular basis?
I can’t justify a full time slot, but I can imagine a day or two a week to keep all the moving parts proper. I can’t do it myself without sacrificing production.
I’d be happy to allow...
There’s also a way to create what looks like a Coos Bay but also with a hinge.
- Face cut.
- Center plunge from face out the back.
- 2 separate back cuts (one on each side of the plunge) stepped up well higher than the apex of the facet, neither crossing over the plunged area.
I’ve used it to...
I’ve been running a RE Pirate with the Akimbo since I can terminate the splice along side for MRS. It’s not bad but nothing keeps the Akimbo upright when advancing from above it. I also have a rubber ring at the rop of the spine of the Pirate to keep the Akimbo from sliding out of position and...
We can get that on and off by season. Springtime you can steer White Pine like no other time of year. Coming out of Winter we always have to remember to snipe the sapwood cheeks across the hinge to prevent tearing.
Happy to try an Akimbo 2 because I am so happy with the first version. When I first heard a new version was coming, I was really hoping it would be designed with a MRS attachment point. When I saw the official ad for the new version, I didn’t get the impression I would see or feel much difference.
Oops. “There may be new posts in this thread”.
Climbing and no assistance from any machinery would definitely be a much different scenario.
Still 3 hands. Rent a gas winch for the day? Gonna go with $3,500.
Spider crane in the driveway fairly close to the septic covers. Outriggers full square, foot under the porch if need be. LZ in front of the house if feasible or on ground protection mats. 3 Hands. Crane. Chipper. Log truck later. $2,750 ~ $3,250
We get our share of trash piles out in the sticks. I would say it’s more common to find large glass dumps than other types of material, but still rather common. Going through pld trash can be interesting. Tells a lot about the past. Some of the glass is cool in its own right but keep your head...
I’m really happy for you! I don’t think that feeling gets old.
I do have to ask though…and not criticizing you…that boom is pretty well into the brush. Maybe it just looks that way? Must have been a real long radius. Most stick crane ops I know don’t really love doing that. I’m sure you guys...
It’s interesting that Hoeflon setup w/o a jib kinda falls in line with most of the under CDL saw trucks I’ve ever seen. Lots of outer boom sections but no jib.
I researched the multicrab early on and couldn’t get any traction. I will definitely look into that multitool now that I know about it. I can envision remotely operating the crane from the tree doing balance-point grabs and making cuts manually. Pretty nice to imagine but reality is usually more...
I’ve posted this before but will do it again here. At the time this device came out, it was one of a kind. Not sure if it ever took off…
Now Hoeflon has their own similar offering seen here…
That’s probably set up without the factory fly jib option and using a fixed length/angle jib with the GMT on the end. That would make sense for remaining capacity and also for hydraulic plumbing, etc.
My guess is the GMT head and Jib together are probably approaching 1,000 lbs, more or less...
Yes, there’s a concern for co-dominance but much less for inclusion. I can always try further suppression of one side. I often do this with dogwoods.
Part of the problem with getting into these species later in their life is the insane number of choices to make and managing the more mature...
