The tree was taken down this weekend.
No vascular streaking in the smaller cuts. Decent root flare. No solar panels on neighbors houses. No sapstreak apparent in the basal cut. I determined it must be lightning.
I doubted lightning at first because I swear the h.o. said she really didn't...
I'm no expert...but here are some thoughts...
So apparently the zz was under-constructed. Looking at the re-make, if I had to call it 'under-constructed' or 'over-construced' i would choose under.
With lives at risk why doesn't a company like Petzl start with over-constructing something and...
k so by HH knot you are talking about the hitch? I thought the HH knot was for the end-knot after the dog bone? The picture above looks fine and I will try it. I just always preferred the XT to the VT or even the V because it requires just a bit less need to tend it (the VT, I found, can...
well I figured I would be using the HH knot regardless of which particular prusik I was using. The XT just wraps around itself before the 'braids' and i think the HH might get in the way of it, was wondering if anyone had any experience with the XT on the HH...
Hey Hitchhikers,
I never had my hands on a HH, I am a WRer, however I am considering making the switch. One question I have is if a person is able to use a XT with the HH. It seems all i see people using is five wrap two braid VT. It also appears the HH might get in the way of the X part of...
This little tree has seen better days... I couldn't see any signs of pests... no new constructions... between two houses, both would like to save it if possible... I thought I would remove some vines and clean it up to give it a fighting chance, but then I realized even the green needles are dry...
the woolies require both alder and silver maple to complete their life cycle, however, I don't know the distances they are able to travel to find the alder after they overwinter in the silver...
so not much alder in the landscapes huh? they must travel far...
Thanks Rope, but when I said your avatar was tough i didn't mean the job (which i'm sure was tough) i meant you... you a bad mama-jama!
nuthin, I think this is a job for The Harvester. i kinda just wanted to say that, but it actually might be...
out of curiosity what is the alder population...
horticultural oil? are the regulations for spraying oil easier than if you were spraying chems?
or how about some good predators? lady beetles for both... lacewings and a butterfly (caterpillar) called The Harvester find those aphids delicious.
there must be a lot of native alder around...
I don't find much, if any, difference or advantage in having two loops hanging down as opposed to three.
it simply allows me to utilize more distant second-points-of-attachment, and to do so from a distance (without needing to be up close to attach a redirect) and without having to put my...
Ya, I have whittled my lanyard down to a nice compact 17 feet : ) That's three loops hanging down, caribs on both ends with a accessory two-way prusik in the middle (not including my working prusik of course). It's actually quite a hassle to get the twists out of that set-up! Truth is though...
