Sorry, it's a flowering cherry. ~30-35 feet. Loss of wood was assessed visually, it's just missing from the side of the base. My best guess is that the cambium tissue (or outer couple inches) of the remaining side of the base, as it rises, enters the burls above and somehow gets...
Kernmaster 11mm. mostly DRT. 10-20 trees per day for six months. Amazed at how well the cover has held up, barely fuzzy on the working ends. I really like the qualities of the rope. However...
Lately, occasionally when the rope is weighted and running through my hand I seem to feel "thin...
Sorry for the lack of pics. The bottom 3-4 feet of the trunk are 100% burled. About 24" at widest. Above that the tree has 12" dbh. At the most decayed portion of the lower trunk there is more than 50% loss of wood, maybe 60%. It has all been eaten away and what remains of the lower trunk...
Up here in New England there is a nice old weeping cherry tree on a homeowners property... The base is very heavily burled and at this time the burls/base are extremely decayed, dried and have been eaten or excavated since there is a fair amount of wood dust at the base. I'm surprised the crown...
Long Island aye? I have had the pleasure of visiting with several hundred Sycamore/London Plane trees this summer in the Brooklyn/Queens/Connecticut area. Almost all are shedding at a very high rate according to homeowners, fellow arborists and personal viewing. No conclusive answers...
I think I have heard somewhere about not using steel and aluminum together, for instance, using aluminum carabiners on steel D-rings. Is this correct? Is this specified in the manufacturers instructions? Is this in the ANSI? Just looking for the good info. Thanks people!

Some friends of mine that need a little support as they fight the good fight the hard way.
Check out the video on the home page.
I believe 'Awakenings' is the proper forum for this, please let me know if it's not (after watching the video).

I always found the zk2 to give me more friction but I will have to try it with the kernmaster to see.
With the 10mm HTP I am rocking and rolling also, it's a huge difference from the 11mm Kernmaster.
Cant wait to try a HH!
I can't be bothered to tend my tail or do anything else extraneous to make this work, if it comes down to it, I will sell the 11mm kern master and pick 10mm HTP which, with my opened up zk1 is really nice. But I will probably try a re-drill or switch out one of the 'rollers' so I can keep the...
Oceans, good thinking on the re-drill. Thanks for the tail info, my instinct was the reverse (longer tail makes it easier to run the wrench) but obviously you are correct and I DID notice the higher up i was the harder it was to run it. Hmm.
Treehive, I have been thinking about this EXACT same...
That's a serious burger and I'm gonna take your advice starting right now with the beers.
As for the RW, I agree I need to customize it to open it up a bit more. I have the zk1, which is already slightly adjustable, and I do have as far open as I can get it, so I am now in the market for a...
Yeah, bouncing or grabbing the wrench is the short-term solution, but not what I want to be doing every single time I want to move down rope. Changing the hitch or hitch cord isn't going to do anything since the issue exists when my hitch is wide open.
I guess I was wondering if anyone had any...
I don't weigh very much. I have been climbing on 11.7mm double braid with a zk1 (opened all the way up). It has worked well. I recently got some 11mm kernmaster and I find due to the increased stiffness of the rope that the system has too much friction (I can sit into the wrench with an open...
Thanks to all you guys that brought yourselves and your gear and your good times. Can't wait till next year and a possible 600' zipper!?
KYAPLE, seriously big props for your first zip in the dark and rain
Thanks Ian!
