Yeah, the two top handled saws are Stihl 08S's.
Made in the 60's , they are good old saws, they cut alot slower that modern saws, but are very solid, all metal no plastic. They have got us out of the [bad word] a few times!
The one with the 20" rail was my granfathers, its been in our family...

Hello I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this saw and could give me some information as far as displacement or what not. There is one for sale locally that is pretty inexpensive but I was wondering if there are any problems with this saw or anything at all.
Thanks

I got my 441 the other day, and to say im extremely impressed is an understatement !
I spent around 3 hours yesterday with it cutting up big pieces of oak and other hard woods. I think the new engine in it, is fantastic, i have never used another sihl saw which revs as much as this one, it...
Ive gone for a 441 with a 20" rail and chain in the end.
A forestry friend of mine gets a very hefty discount so he is getting the saw for me so i should get it start of next week. I'll report back when i get it.

The bar is not "jimmy rigged" on. It is a stock bar from Stihl, that comes with the caution that you have to drill. Loads of people play with their 880's like this, although a 16" is a LOT more common on a 660/066.
Yes there is a 3/8"...

let me re-phrase the original posters question:
"Hi, I am running an MS880. Is there any way to jimmy-rig a bar designed for an 021 on it?" It's just silly. Have you ever seen anybody with an 066 or an MS880 with a 15" bar? No, because...
Re: Stihl MS 880 15-18\" bar availability???
Thanks for all the great replies.
Yes i do want to have a play around with it, im really interested to see what this saw can cut like with a small bar.
Is there a 3/8 pitch rail and sprocket which will go straight onto this saw then??

Seems a really foolish idea, a waste of fuel and putting hours on a big saw running and cutting very little.
A smaller higher rpm saw would out cut the 088 with a minature bar.

Stihl MS 880 15-18\" bar availability???
Hello again from the uk
I have a 880 which im really really pleased with, heres a picture of it
I have the 48" bar and also a 25" one which i use on there most of the time.
Now im looking to put a 15-18" bar on it because i have alot of cordwood...

Consensus is, the 441 is underpowered for its weight.
If quick service and parts availabiity isn't an issue, try the Solo 681 or Dolmar 7900. Both are lighter and will walk all over a 460...and, of course, a 441...and cost a lot less as well.
Like them even better than the 372 Husky...

The differences between the two are major and many. I prefer the extra power of the 460, personally.
Yes you will see a 461, 661, 881. You will see a 362, and 442 before those though.
There are 7, and 8 tooth sprockets available through Stihl, and most other suppliers. You can buy...
im leaning more towards buying a 441, how many teeth is their on the stock sprocket? is there other sprockets with more teeth available to make it run faster??
thanks Mark
yeah, ive just been doing some more reading and it lloks like the 441 is replacing the 460. Do you think we will see a 641, 841? or even a 661, 881 etc? how long has the 460 been about?
