Stihl MS 880 15-18" bar availability???

Re: Stihl MS 880 15-18\" bar availability???

Its easy enough. They might even be marked out for you already? If not post pics and we can help. Its a matter of mounting the bar, and then lining up the oiler hole and drilling, pretty easy.

fergusont20, you are a good sport.

I wish I had a good picture of this machine I used to run, you would have loved it.. An Allis-Chalmers 1948 Model G, home-fitted with a full floating grader board. It was cool.. Like a four wheeled spider.

Hey ferguson20,

Did you get my pm?

Hi Jim

Yes i got your pm, We used to have a large farm and alot of land years ago, we had a dairy/beef herd, sheep and used to grow crops aswell. All unfortunantly was sold up though.

I do alot of forestry work for a friend of mine, they are one of the largest forestry companies in the uk and it is something i enjoy very much.

Is there anyone reading this from the uk and can help me?? im looking to buy a sawbench frame so i can add an axle and drawbar so i can tow it behind my truck. My dad made one years ago running a 28" blade and he used a old petrol villiers engine to power it, it ran really well and it is something i would like to create, so i am looking for help sourcing a frame and also a petrol or preferably disel engine to power it, engine will ideally need a large flywheel and run at a reasonable speed.

Can anyone help me? ive checked ebay etc but to no avail.

Thanks Mark

It's your saw,run it and cut with it what you want as you want . Lotta saw for firewood but it no doubt will cut anything you run accross including the stuff hanging on that loader .

If you want to 3/8" pitch ,fine and dandy but that saw will chew though big stuff faster running .404 than any stock 460 could dream of inspite of the proud owners expectation of same .

--and yes you can adapt other mounts of bar to fit that saw but you are visting the wrong forum for that .

Im trying to find this bar on the net, all the sites show a 021 as a 3/8 pitch, am i missing something??? can you point me to a page on the net please.

Ive found the bar here :

http://www.chainsaws-etc.com/stihl_chain_saw_bars.htm

3002 000 9715 - 17" .404 to fit the following

08, 051, 076, 084, 088, 090G -68
07,08 SUPER,050,075,E30, S1

How easy is it to drill the oil ways correctly?? has anyone got a template of where the holes should go??

That bar is designed for the 880, so no need to drill anything.

but why so short...a 20" will be easier to use, and 98% as fast.....heck, at that length, the saw would pull a 9 tooth sprocket easily.

My woods ported 3120 is prolly putting out 13 hp. I've run it at a couple shows with a 24 inch bar and race chain...now that's one fast saw!!

I have maybe 21 feet of full comp chain that is .404 and .063. You can have it for $50 plus shipping.......I have no use for it, as I only run full skip on my big saw, which is never fitted with anything less than a 42 inch bar.....It came with my second 3120 which came with 72 and 43 inch bars....and now is fitted to an Alpine Magnum go anywhere stump grinder.

Re: Stihl MS 880 15-18\" bar availability???

Oh even with a 24 that thing will just gobble up wood .

Usually a saw of that size wears at least a 36" ,they were designed for big stuff .I've used the big saws to cut firewood but not for very long at a time ,just large stuff 'cause the get real heavy real quick .

I don't have a clue where anybody got the notion there suck down more gas ??? Go lay that 460 to a piece of 30 plus diameter stuff , a bunch of it and then do the same with an 084/088 880 size and just see . I'll make a wager the big boy will slice it up faster using about the same amount of fuel .

I would venture a guess that the big Stihl should be about like the big old 125 Macs and hold about 40 minutes running time per tank .40 minutes on a 123 cc saw equates to a lot of big wood chunked up .

Re: Stihl MS 880 15-18\" bar availability???

Dont listen to the D.A. Nay sayer. There is a 16" non replaceable sprocket nose 3/8 050 in either 64dl for the big boys. Sandvik made bar for $35.
Let her rip with a 9T and put a smile on your face. Its about what you want, not others.

Re: Down with the Nay Sayers.................

I just checked the bars the Sandvik 16" non replaceable sprocket nose is 64dl 3/8 050.
The 17" GB bar in 3/8 050 for the 088 is 66dl with replaceable tip.
I know I own both and they are a blast to run. I even have a couple of 21's and 30's and so on.

Re: Down with the Nay Sayers.................

I have a 20in , if your interested, its even cut so you can run a bigger gear. 3/8 050

Re: Down with the Nay Sayers.................

Just like cityclimber pointed out. You can take 25" bars and cut them down to fit 72DL chains and 68DL chains. Have 3 set up this way too.
