Going for a higher power to weight ratio is a good thing but don't forget that the 441 puts out less polution....and the operator is right there breathing it all in.

BTW, the 441 and the 440 are completley different engine designs.
 
A stratified engine in Stihls design, pushes in a fresh air charge through a seperate venturi in the carburetor. This helps keep unburned fuel in the combustion chamber and push exhaust gas out.
 
I have had some difficulty with them closing. On a variety of equipment, 192T (fuel and bar oil), 600 series backpack blower, 460 (oil cap broke twice). It seems like the track somehow gets out of alignment.
 
I purchased three 441's at the same time, and have been very unhappy with them. Fussy to start after their warm, underpowered, plastic-ey feeling. What I would give to trade'em in on some good ol' 044's...
 
Ive gone for a 441 with a 20" rail and chain in the end.
A forestry friend of mine gets a very hefty discount so he is getting the saw for me so i should get it start of next week. I'll report back when i get it.

I got my 441 the other day, and to say im extremely impressed is an understatement !

I spent around 3 hours yesterday with it cutting up big pieces of oak and other hard woods. I think the new engine in it, is fantastic, i have never used another sihl saw which revs as much as this one, it screams its knackers off and ripped through everything we ease. It is light,starts easily from hot and cold, and importantly seems to use very little fuel. Its very gutsy and cuts very quickly.

Definantly reccomend it and will probably buy another one myself
 
th e 441 is a very nice saw, i keep one in my crane just for me to use. i run a 25" full skip chain, and keep it sharp. after a few tanks of break in, i put the tach on it only to find the dealer had it set almost 2k lower than the service manual suggests. i tuned her up about 500 from red line and i absolutely love it. so does the crew, when they get to make a cut with it, which is rare. nice and smoothe. this saw will damn near cut with a 660

Same here, the only one that gives me trouble consistently is the oil cap on my 200T. I figured out there's a little grey tab that gets unseated and you have to kind of reset the cap, then it works great. It's kind of a bitch explaining it the a new groundie though.

I have an eight year old 440 that's my primary felling saw. It drives a 28" bar with an aggressive chain no problem and I'm really happy with it. But if I was buying a new saw for felling today, I'd go the extra few bucks and get the 460.

One thing that makes it hard to close the cap correctly is overfilling the tank with oil. There is a place in the oiltank, where some air gets trapped, so if you tilt the saw a little from side to side, it'll let out a bubble and give you room to fit the cap back on. Kind of like burping a baby!

When were those produced? It looks like the little one to the right doesn't have a chainbrake, or maybe it is broken off.

They look like beefy little saws.
