Nice work. Palms are fun. Lots of movement.
Sean, I usually stack my rope cleanly to my rear right. (I'm right handed, so my left side is towards the trew.) Not exactly "behind" me. The bend the rope would take from a stack in front of you, around your hand, and towards the brake at the base of...
Good question.
I checked early 90s Volvos which weight 2,800-3,500 lbs. While I could easily see tree parts weighing that much, it's well in excess of the working load rating of the GRCS, at least for catching loads.
If I recall they dropped the Volvo into it pretty hard. I've pushed the...
It's gotta be just deep enough that it catches the mounting plate behind the pigtails.
Lags would work better, but it's a bit of effort, and tools we don't normally carry. I don't think most of our ropes will meet the load that justifies lags.
Have you watched the Volvo video?
On a removal, just saw a flat spot onto the trunk with a 1" lip on top to catch the frame. This works quite well. I bought the visor plate and have never used it. We rig big when we can...
Look up the ANSI A300 standard for supplemental support system.
I believe it does mention synthetics, and definitely says they need to be strong enough, and installed according to manufactures instructions.
What are you used to?
I'll have to pay attention next time. It is comparable to a friends Morbark 15r with a 140hp. I do know that in the past I have allowed the blades to become less than perfect which makes a huge difference. Lately we've been anal about blade maintenance on it.
We're running a '12 TAC750 with the 140hp Cat engine. max diameter w/o autofeed cycling depends largely on wood type. I can't say for sure, somewhere between 8-10", however that doesn't mean it's cycling constantly... It's a great machine though.
Nice install.
I do however see an issue with trying to stow either the muffs or mic.
I have my mic mounted up near/partially coveting the attachment point of the mesh visor. I can tuck the mic up above my forehead when not in use, and the muffs stow normally.
We have a 2012 TAC750, and have been happy with it. All of the hydraulics except the winch are electronically controlled, but it's pretty simple, and other then a $10 relay and a dealer miswiring it, it's been great. There are benefits to electronic controls, mainly an "all stop" switch on...
When I first read about this a few days ago my first feeling was to blame the operator. Especially now that you say he wouldn't use the intercoms.
If I had such a dangerous close call happen I would be close to replacing the operator, or give one warning if you really don't feel like going...
Thanks Guy,
Purchased finally. It had been on the back burner since you referenced it in Bend. I think it only benefits a practice to look to other cultures of practice. The arborist can then draw conclusions based on more information.
Thanks Guy!
Yes I agree, that was a good comment he made
I see you plugging the ZTV at every opportunity. Can you post a link of a good place to order it?
Great idea.
Yeah, alternamats don't cut it with a heavy crane if you're going for "zero" impact. Especially on hot asphalt, they might leave markings from the traction molding.
It's not, however I've confidently used either for ascent. I did however have an independent rated life support system. Such as a single or doubled rope climbing system. Then it's legit as far as I know.
We are 4 years in. I've to this point paid myself an hourly wage for sales, and production time. Not for office etc. This way I put a reasonable burden on the company based on work load. Now that we're more or less full time I think I'm gonna move to a salary, or at least partial distribution (s...
