Need some help with Lawson’s Cypress

@evo and @Brando CalPankian BCMA I’m having the neighbor do the tests. The tree is at about the middle of the driveway. It gets run off but, we haven’t had a lot lately. I was considering too much water but, it’s been thriving for the last few years they lived there.

Need some help with Lawson’s Cypress

I looked at this tree today for a neighbor. It’s about 25-30 foot and unknown age but, it’s well established. It has several leaders from the ground. I did the usual search but, wanted to see if someone has 1st hand knowledge. I probed around and didn’t find pests, root girdling and the ground...

Three dead ash trees this week and 3 hangers. I had to use a pulley and my 12k winch to coax them into the woods. They were leaning towards the outbuilding (right side not in photo) in the field but, client said just drop them into the woods and leave them. Wohoo! Two wedges, the winch and the...

    Portawrap to rope

It looks like slings are pretty cheap. I only have a medium Portawrap because I don’t do big stuff. I was trying to use the True blue or Arborplex I’ve got around.

    Portawrap to rope

Newly porty user, yeah I know but, I’ve always crotch rigged. I have several rigging ropes that I can cut a hank for securing the portawrap to a tree. I’m only rigging small stuff since I usually work solo but, a buddy recently retired and is helping me. I’m trying to make it a little easier and...

    6-8” chipper

Yes. I bought a chipper similar to his. Powerhorse from Northern Tool on sale + veteran discount. Now I’m thinking about how to carry it on the back of my dump trailer. I’ll start a new thread when I go down that route. Thanks

    Today....

Nice work but, it’s difficult to get the owner to agree. I had that happen 2x today.

    6-8” chipper

I’m still looking. I really not liking a big or towable unit. Since I usually work solo, I can only take so much and double towing is sketchy. A lot of jobs allow me to leave the debris or I haul it away in my dump trailer. If you have some other ideas, throw them out here. You folks are fully...

Today was the largest Tree of Heaven Ailanthus altissima I’ve ever seen or cut. It was a little over 3ft across and it think the DBH (37.56”) was 9ft 10 inches. It was 105-110 feet on the ground. My MS460 didn’t like it or it was my poor sharpening technique.

    Tree oddities

Here’s a tree on my forestry project. Tree fell over root ball to left and two more grew up.

    Tree oddities

I cut a large branch off a hackberry the other day. It looks like a codominant branch thing going on. I just thought it was unusual. It was completely hollow 4ft up the branch.

SRS/SRT which side for right dominant

I was beat in an assent event by 71 years old Mr Binkley. Just kidding and trying to get faster. I was wondering what the comp guys do. Thanks

SRS/SRT which side for right dominant

Just curious what y’all do for foot and knee ascender sides? I’m curious about efficiency and competition. I’m right side dominant and I run foot ascender right and knee left. What ya got to say?

    Oh my handyman and landscapers!

I agree and I’m just the duck letting the water roll off my back. I was just venting and NOT doing a deep dive. I bid 1k because of the work and time and small risk to complete. It’s really no fun carting big stuff through a small gate. She got it done for $600 without damage…good for her. I...

    Oh my handyman and landscapers!

5ft chunks have to be wheeled through small gate. I’m not sure I was looking forward to that anyway. Risk factor for falling on 2 fences and building.

    Oh my handyman and landscapers!

I hear what you’re saying but, a lot of people don’t understand or care. It’s all about the money, then when they or their neighbors get involved in that situation, they say “maybe I should have checked their insurance or called a professional. I really want to say I told you so, but, I don’t...

    Oh my handyman and landscapers!

I don’t have to depend on tree work to get by. This is irritating. I’ll bet you folks that do run into this issue everyday. I looked at a job yesterday of a dead oak about 25ft tall. It had been topped by a tree guy and of course it died from the 2ft branches dead headed. It was leaning over...

    Two Rope Climbing

I will use an SRS and MRS in questionable trees or if I need to work a wide canopy. Here’s a situation where 2 systems were necessary. There wasn’t anything above and the tree in a fence row was reaching for the sun. I’ve never used or rented a lift or bucket and the septic tank was below. The...
