Hey Tom,
That nest looked familiar.
I inspected it for the property owner and Eagle management planning. Four Seasons crew actually pruned that tree fromn the tips in and removed several large branches...uhg...tre was already badly over pruned. Cool nest....were you tempted to get into...
Last one for now... this is Taka an amazing tree houser from Japan. We have been meeting at Out N' About for ten years as of this fall when Ox did the tree work and the tenth annual World Tree House Conference.
Find Taka on the web at www.treehouse.co.jp
Enjoy the pics! Scott
A little more on the HisTree of this tree:
MIchael Garnier was drawn to the land because of this tree.
Although the horses were certaily a problem the real culprit was the inevitable decline of this amazing tree coupled with Garnier's thinking he could help it out and so...built a garden...

Hey I love my arborwear tech pants but they get trashed by sap like any other pant.
I've had success removing pine and fir sap...and lots of it by:
1.Get a bottle of Citrusolve cleaner.
2.Wet the sapped areas with the cleaner full strength (no it won't dissolve the fabric).
3.Add some of the...
I was on a site recently and wathced a young groundie pushing with his foot well into the chute of a howlin big chipper. I ran over and pulled him away and read him the riot act!
I was amazed that he did not seem to see how crazy what he was doing was.
Re: so you want to look at unusual trees, eh?
Hey I've seen the trees that Axel Earlandson grew.
I've also visited Richard Reams at his home where he is growing a house. He has a water spigot that comes right out of a tree trunk (keeps adding pipe to it).
He also plants saplings through the...
Re: Level of risk...what\'s your threshold?
I have enjoyed the posts everbody...thanks.
That was really the scariest thing I've climbed on outside of some alpine rock climbs. I have rappelled many times off bollards cut into compacted snow and even crossed a huge crevasse and a roaring Yukon...
Level of risk...what\'s your threshold?
Hey all,
I threatened to post these pics and have now worked up the courage and time to do so.
This crossbow set was at ~120' in a huge pine in Oregon.
I could see that I was over a stub with my binocs. I bounced hard with two people...and there were...
Hey all...it is fun to get all your comments!
The log will be in a permanent display helping folks to understand Northwest ecology. It is a Western hemlock (Tsuga heterophyla)...there are already seedlings growing on it along with a buch of other species. There will be field guie to the log...
Hey MB
A nurse log is a log on the forest floor that, as it slowly turns to soil, supports lots of plants and also tree seedlings. Out here all of our native conifers will grow this way often surviving to maturity.
Trees that grew on a nurse log or stump often have cool unusual basal structure...
Last one shows the log about to be cradled on the truck. Todd used straw bales and they worked vey well...resilient is the word he used to describe them.
This one is a close up of the log and rigging cradle.
I did a structural analysis of the log and I was hyappy that it held together after ten years of deterioration.
We did not even loose any bark.
