Unusual lift of nurse log near Seattle

Ooops, 450t metric, that's massive, I wonder how long/high the boom is?

So, can some-one explain why this log was worth it?

Eric:

The Grove 7550 has a 197' 5 section mechanically pinned boom, and can offer a 184' working radius. Adding jibs both luffling and fixed can extend the max tip height to 410' and a max working radius of 263'.

Hey all...it is fun to get all your comments!

The log will be in a permanent display helping folks to understand Northwest ecology. It is a Western hemlock (Tsuga heterophyla)...there are already seedlings growing on it along with a buch of other species. There will be field guie to the log and I am helping with a management plan.

I had some ideas that had not been considered such as...collecting debris from beneath the forest near the logs original site to sprnikle on the log. Without this input the log would be "short on funds" to keep things growing.

The web site for the park is

or: Google Olympic Sculpture Park

This kind of log is not rare here although you won't find many in logged over areas.

For any and all that make a trip out here the olympic rain forest and many coastal areas have amazing nurse logs all over the place.

here is another picture for example. This one grew on a nurse stump. Scott

I am intrigued with the crane too, just really cool that such a deal goes on. It is a huge crane and for operation that operater must have been one tight cookie not to damage the nurse log cool pics and great job.
