Yesterday afternoon, a local man died in a wood chipper mishap. Not many details on the news article that I can find, except that he was the father of a Philadelphia city, police officer. From the little news footage, I found, looks like it was about a 12 inch chipper, which is probably why he...
That Tesla loader would be handy on a smaller chipper, but it is a very heavy option. I think it adds something like 8000 pounds to the 21XP.
A folding wench would be a great thing to have, one of the local tree services here has made a retrofit for theirs. I plan to do the same one day, just...
The jack I like most is the Ram: https://www.easternmarine.com/ram-12v-power-jack-hj-15008 One of our local suppliers stocks it, this is just the first listing I found online.
Also, I’m rather fond of the Bulldog Velocity jack, it is the fastest electric jack I’ve ever seen...
My father was an auto mechanic, and my grandfather owned a body shop, I was working on cars before I could walk. Unfortunately, most people these days are not that way, and I have learned not to trust employees with things I haven’t trained them to do. We keep spare tires in the shop, and all...
I don’t like the regular electric jack, it is too slow. I like an electric over hydraulic jack, as they are fast and do not require the engine to run in order to operate.
Strobe light would be a good feature, but we have enough strobe lights all over the chip trucks to make up for a lack of...
I don’t remember exactly what the upgrade cost on the last new chipper we bought, I think it was around $1200 for the hydraulic shoot rotation. It’s a simple set up, they take the crank handle off and bolt on a hydraulic motor, put a valve down near the engine. No gears, no electronics or...
I agree. The first chipper I bought had one, I didn’t see a reason anyone would want it until after I used it. Now I have no intention of buying another one without it.
Welded infeed tray - much stronger and has plates added to minimize branches bumping the feed control bar
Hydraulic chute rotator - saves more time than you think
Electric hydraulic jack - no need to start the engine, and sure saves a lot of cranking!
It does make one think, but apparently the low pressure atmosphere of an airplane is what tends to cause the issues, and of course if one does catch fire in an airplane it’s hard to fight a fire deep in the cargo compartment…
The storage cabinet with alarm is an interesting idea.
My father’s...
Funny note on batteries - I ordered three replacement Sena batteries online, they were delivered today. Individually boxed and shipped, with warning stickers all over the boxes. I think the packaging was a bit excessive though, wouldn’t dropping all three in a padded envelope be enough?
Make sure it doesn’t have too many oil leaks, and make sure that the transmission feels good. If it has an automatic, it probably has an E4OD, some of them were not the most reliable. If it feels like it shifts solidly, it should be in fine shape.
We have an 03 6.0, head studs, deleted, new turbo, complete fuel system, FICM, and two transmissions. After all that, it turned into a great truck. If we hadn’t bought it for $1800, it would’ve been a very expensive truck to own. I bought it knowing it had most of those problems though, and...
Sounds like quite a few issues to say the least. The 6.0 is definitely known for having problems, the FICM is one of the biggest engine issues and one of the more common no start problems in that engine. It’s also very expensive, but maybe you can find one to borrow or get ahold of one from a...
Yes, prices definitely have gone up like crazy in the past five years. I’m sure that Gap Hill charges more than they did back then, but I’m not sure their prices went up quite as much as the rest of the market. I could be wrong. I haven’t priced anything there lately, and they are presently...
I see. It would be interesting to know what brand batteries those are, whether they are major company brands or not. Thank you for sharing that, makes me want to try to look into some more of this.
