The oscillation of remaining stem after felling the top is not evidence of weakening or damage from cutting said top. It's a phenomenon of leverage produced by shortening the stick and removing the motion damping leaves and branches. Same thing happens to long branches that get reduced, they...
In deed, someone put the wrench on the tether backwards. Rubber prevents wrench from folding too far into full disengagement and staying there when hitch is released.
I believe the idea for this tether is seizing it onto the biner with stiching/whipping to prevent flop slop.
I bet that feels pretty good, to show up at a new job and crush. Trial by fire doesn't sound like the best hiring practice tho...unless its closely supervised like varsity try-outs.
If they care at all. It seems like we are in a streak of rich folks with newly acquired property in mountain top developments that cant settle for less than total destruction. Tree haters!
Excellent critique, Ryan. I'm glad we could draw it out of you. Hearing perspectives like yours is valuable, and is perhaps more representative than a typical employee or owner/operator. Contract climbers are getting exposed to a larger slice of the industry. And I can only imagine how...
I feel like I can tie a cow hitch pretty tight by using the first bend/bight to sweat the line with a sort of vector pull twist around the trunk. Probably enough to prevent a 2 foot drop.
One thing about a situation like you described, a big pull upward on the broke limb could actually...
I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure there is no "potential" violation in the interpretation of MAD rules. If your hand goes inside of the MAD then you are inside. If not, then you are outside.
It seems maybe a little close if you are brushing up against it or worried you might accidentally...
150 comes with twelve inch bar, and 1/4" pitch chain. I just got the 18V unit, and 12 inches is the maximum for that power level. The double battery should pull good with 14 or 16, especially the narrow gauge ones.
What kind of services are you scheduling? 10 jobs a day sounds high, like mowing or something.
I am responsible for scheduling tree work for 6 employees with a modest fleet and one quality that we have to maintain as a whole operation is flexibility.
How I do that is by holding Fridays open...
We have a job coming up where the customer is not allowing trucks on the driveway. He owns a big patch of forest and we are going to crane out some big pines, some dead, for no other reason besides not liking them.
I'm envious that you have authority to do things like postpone or cancel a job...
Pics for clarity!
This is a knut tied with a loop. It is usually tied with an eye2eye or single cord. When I pull the loop flat there are 2 parallel ropes and I pretend like they are one.
I dressed one side to be short and one to be long then put the long one thru the short one. It works pretty...
I had one on my bridge once, and could not adjust it under load. Even while partially supported by a limb to stand on. It's mostly the size and hand position that didnt work well with it stuck on the saddle. I think there's too much friction to perform as a frequently adjustable grab, and I...
You can always tie any friction hitch treating a loop like an eye2eye. But I think you want a nice, stable, compact hitch on a long loop and clip only one strand?
Maybe like I said first, tie whatever hitch like your loop is a cord, but doubled treating the end-bights like eyes. But keep one...
I love seeing all these comments on the value of trees and properly caring for them standing as the guiding principal of our business. I also work for a company that offers education and service in that order because we prioritize tree preservation. We are large and have an office staff, so my...
I will never understand rigging huge tops or giant balanced limbs over obstacles and targets. My hot take:
Hanging from a rope doesn't make anything smaller. If the groundie is sawing on something STILL IN THE AIR BECAUSE THEY CANT PUT IT DOWN, IT WAS TOO BIG. (Exceptions may apply).
I bought the 18V makita saw for pruning as well. And the 1/4" sprocket, so the stihl bar and chain from my ms150 fits perfect, one part conversion.
It's perfect for light climbing. I have a very large, heavy leaning chestnut oak crown reduction in the future that will be its moment to shine...
