Blaze and ZigZag okay in comps?

Blaze is larger than 11mm in diameter. It's probably closer to 11.5mm. As for the Zigzag use, that's Petzl's call. Petzl has to approve it for ITCC use.

    Thinking about going to husky

I've run 394XP and 395XP's with 32 and 36" bars. I like both models. Would choose either over a 660. Ever try a Dolmar 7900? It'll handle a 32" bar no sweat. I was never a fan of the 066/660.

    X-rigging rings

[ QUOTE ] These might work out well for crane work. Shackles are nice, but I'd rather see a ring swinging from the hook. [/ QUOTE ] The rings don't have a large enough hole to fit on a crane hook. Shackles are "the bomb" for crane work, if used correctly.

    DRAMA on the job

Bosses like that are not worth working for. Did the boss communicate to you this person wanted to remove the tree using your climbing gear? I suspect not. Next time, call the sales rep and ask if he/she neglected to communicate anything to you, like, "Is someone else going to top the tree or a...

    sprocket on the bar

[ QUOTE ] 1. 660s are pretty skimpy with their oil to begin with a highout put makes them a little better. 2. Like mentioned previously clean your bar groove often and it will help. [/ QUOTE ] 1. Agreed. 660's don't oil well. Also, the longer the bar, the more oil it will need. Solution...

    Dynamometer

It would make better sense to know your wood weights. Always have your lowering line as the 'weakest link', including the tree itself. There are 'green log weight charts' on TreeBuzz. Do a search.

    Dragnet on rope

[ QUOTE ] Contact the tech department of the rope manufacturer. Have the MSDS or container label for Dragnet for them. There are few chemicals that damage typical climbing ropes. [/ QUOTE ] Preferably the pesticide label. It will tell all active and inert ingredients. I wouldn't use the...

Rigging Rings - Build your own @ home

[ QUOTE ] Don't even bother with the Brummels here guys, straight buries are fine, and actually are stronger. [/ QUOTE ] X2. I have found this to be true first hand. There are times when locking Brummels are the way Togo, but not in a hitch cord.

    harness dorsal attachment

[ QUOTE ] Some Buckingham fall arrest harnesses offer a soft attachment as opposed to a D ring.-Tom [/ QUOTE ] Yes they do. I have 1 if anyone would like to see a pic.

Hey, we made a video of our Cottonwood removal.

[ QUOTE ] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H128eNLsonY edited with my 10 year old son. [/ QUOTE ] Precision notch and drop. Nicely executed. A word of advice to your rope man, don't stand directly under the log being cut; at the 40 second mark.

    OSHA/ANSI eye protection

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] There is also no reason to have to use a mesh face shield anymore. Bailey's Logging Supply now sells these 20-gauge galvanized mesh safety glasses. These meet both ANSI Z87+2010 and CE EN1731 European standards and the glasses take the place of the face shield...

Better backup system when blocking down a spar

[ QUOTE ] Norm, It looks like with the tied termination of your working end, you avoid having to have a wrench. Is that so? This seems like a good back-up, but lacks the ability to rappel on your climbing system, no? . [/ QUOTE ] I put a figure 8 below the hitch. With the extra wraps, I...

Better backup system when blocking down a spar

[ QUOTE ] Norm, are you putting the tail of your line into a 'biner attached to the quick link for retrieval? [/ QUOTE ] That will work. I have a length of 1/4" 3 strand that I use for retrieval.
