What if you know one particular company is better than all the ones on the list? Seems like a disservice to the client to hand over the list. love nick

There are dozens here in California. Not me though- I do both! And to think that "decoupled" consultants aren't funneling work to a limited set of tree services is foolish. Everyone has their favorites. My favorite happens to be the company I own.

    Poison Ivy Splice

You suck if this was your first splice and it broke at almost 10,000 pounds. So many people have to practice a bunch of times before they see those numbers. Nice work man! love nick

    DMM throw hook.

I'm getting one of these in a few weeks. How do you go about UNhooking it? Do you have to climb over to do it by hand? love nick

    Need a bosses advice

I think no matter where you work, your first couple weeks are a time to observe, accept that they've been doing just fine without you for the entire existence of the company to this point , and try to understand. Make changes slowly and starting small. As it is, you managed to lose someone...

    Core strand as whipping twine

In some of his directions, Brion Toss shows a neat way of pulling a strand at your first mark, letting that pulled strand BE the mark...then at the end bury up to that strand, then use the tail to lock-stitch the splice.

    Lockstitching VS Whipping

I see a lot of hand-done splices that are buried to get the mark in, but still could go an inch or two more if we put just a wee more force on it. If you're using the whipping as an overload indicator, you might be led to assume a splice was overloaded when really, it was just the first time it...

    Time-clock Software

Do you use the time-clock feature in jobber? I'm trying to decide if it's a good idea. What I'm curious about is if one of the guys heads home and forgets to clock out, can he just go in later and fix it if he remembers at 10pm...or is it a major headache to fix it. I can't imagine my guys...

    Girth hitch strength

Then the answer is, "strength, in this application, doesn't matter. Your hitch cord (beeline or the like?) is so strong that in even extreme climbing situations you'll NEVER create loads that would push things far enough where the loss from girth-hitching would ever matter." love nick

    Girth hitch strength

Are you wondering for curiosity? The real answer is if you're pushing gear to the point where this discussion matters, it's time to upgrade the gear! love nick

    Diseases/maladies...that kill 'good' trees

Around LA native oaks and sycamore are getting obliterated by polyphagous shothole borer. On the upside, they also kill tree of heaven! love nick
