    Fumes yes are bad burning green walnut, as I stated make sure of allot of air movement. I would not recomend open fireplace inside a house . Fumes that will do it to you and yes the smell almost like burning trash. Hence all the 2-whatever years or seasoning. I choose 2-3 years season.

Best if seasoned for about 2 years, just make sure that you have good air flow and don't stand down wind from the chimney smells not so good.
