Benefits of being a tree climber...

Great post Blinky. I too have a daughter, only three, and people have joked about the future boyfriend thing too. Love to hear it actually happens. I think it's great. You did sum it up all around.

Playing with hingewood, living geometry and physics, people watching, elevated heartrates, feeling the weight and power of photosynthesis. Getting peed on by squirrels.....no. The sounds of the canopy, even in the middle of the city we work in the forest:)

On a nice warm spring day, the sound of leaves fluttering all around you is something quite nice. Doesn't that sound good right about now? I'm gettin' kinda sick of cold wind and snow blowin' through empty canopies.

Farmertan - big time!

A lot of fresh air.

Adrenaline pumping :-)

Taking care of trees is a fantastic thing. Love to prune an old giant and know that my kids will be looking at it (hopefully !) in 20 years.

Smelly armpits.

You get to buy sooo much fantastic gear!

Frostbites on your feet in the winter :-(

Sawdust in your underpants. Girls love it!

Lying in bed and still feeling like I'm in a top swaying with the wind.

Oh man I love it when I feel like that.

Holy crap, thought there was something wrong with me, even the occasional feeling like I'm about to fall for some odd reason

Being complacent in a job that terrifies most people... Knowing how to use rope to do various different things... Yelling common sense at university students that walk clearly through your marked off areas. :)

Just being outside in the fresh air as a job. Having people pull over to watch, or take a photo and say, wow thats awesome ( not so much from a bucket though, anyone can work from a bucket and feel safe IMO ) Intentionally swinging around like a kid.

Tom , i love that !! did that a few times this winter in some huge Oaks!! Brought home the deadwood in my pick up split it by hand an burnt it that night...cause it was "just too nice to chip!!!! " good call!!

Me:" When I grow up I am going to climb trees for a living"
My older Brother: " Ya Right"
Me: " Told you so"
I love being right!!!

I told my mom the same thing when I was 6. She said, "You can do anything you want when you grow up, Honey!", in a motherly sort of way. She was convinced there was no way anyone could ever make a living climbing trees, but I am so glad she was wrong! We have the best job ever
