I think you meant to say…the competition was kicking Craig’s ass! I didn’t practice before I came (Dummy me). It was great to meet you. I had an absolute blast. My goal was to have fun and I did! Craig

I’m driving down on Thursday. It’s a long 10 hour trip but, I’m going for the fun and camaraderie. Hopefully, not embarrassing myself too much. Craig

    Today....

Running the skidder after dropping some Tree of Heaven (Ailanthus altissima) today. Got two good piles going.

    New Grapple by Reg Coates

I think a biner is fine for a canopy with some open branches. Anything like a carabiner or big ended eye in small stuff would get hung up. It’s same principle as a throw bag in tight spaces.

    New Grapple by Reg Coates

I used it again for a traverse. A few more things I discovered. I think a tight eye splice is better. My splice is sewn with the thread wrapped around the outside and shrink wrap. It gets hung on twigs and tight unions. I covered the whole thing with heat shrink to see if it helps. You...

    New Grapple by Reg Coates

Hey moderators….can somebody move the RC Grapple discussion to this thread? I think we need the other thread cleaned with single discussion. Thread 'New Ascender from Reg Coates' https://www.treebuzz.com/forum/threads/new-ascender-from-reg-coates.47065/

    Echo DCS-2500T Clearance at HD

I bought one for $215 plus tax on clearance at HD. I used it again today for pruning. I went back to get another but, they were gone. Pretty good little saw.

    Best chainsaw pants for longevity

I have 2 pairs of the Forester and I like them. The front pockets are terrible. I thought I wouldn’t like the button and snap for the waist but, they’re holding up. I climb in them because they’re lightweight. They will get snagged on briar type stuff. Watch the muffler and chain on your saw too.

    Failed White Pine rigging

Looks a lot bigger on the ground. I like how he does it without gaffs using 3 ropes. Nice. I’ve suspended between two trees and it’s fun. Nice job.

Using a device above hitch. I made this.

I have an infrequent issue with my hitch based system. I read the sticky post about the rope wrench. Occasionally my hitch will get jammed against my RW. I use a RP280 with a Rope Logic Fix tether. I’m currently trying a different hitch and knot combinations to prevent it. Also, fingers get hot...

    Today....

About a week ago there was mention about the Tree Of Heaven (Ailanthus altissima). I have a lot of experience with cutting them. I thought I should mention that they will pop and are not always predictable. I cut mostly dead ones but, even the live trees are sketchy. Here’s a photo from the...

    Drone use

My brother owns a company and flies remote pilot commercially. He usually does the lidar for ground topography and aerial photography. This done prior to large construction projects. He does get tree heights and other information but, that data is rarely used in his business. He is looking into...

    Pelican Rope

I climbed today 3x on this rope. I was canopy tied SRS at about 40ft. Here’s what is a little odd about this rope. It is stretching when loaded on initial ascent, meaning when you test the TIP. I get a bouncy feeling that is different from the Samson. Maybe that’s from the nylon core? Once I...

Views. Here is one of mine. Lets see yours.....so many great views out there.

This is from a maple getting some pruning. This is from the forestry project where I’m opening a hillside view. You can’t see the road from the sitting area. BTW that’s west sunset views, will be awesome Craig

    Pelican Rope

Initial report from today’s climb. I was base tied over a branch at about 60 ft. When I loaded the rope to check my TIP it felt a little springy. I’m still looking for the elongation specs but, it’s new so I’m going to give it some time. I usually climb with Samson Hyperclimb which is 1.6%...

    New Ascender from Reg Coates

I used it today to get into a very small oak. I needed to clean up the structure before it got too big. I was working in the Hackberry next to it. It’s going to be a great tool. Getting it on a branch not too bad but, turning and jiggling it out is going to take practice. Reg’s video using the...

    Today....

I’ve been on a forestry project for over a year killing the TOH. I’ve cut down numerous trees. This property is infested with 100s. We hack and squirt in September so the uptake sends the poison to the roots. The stump gets treated too. If you cut a live one down, several more will pop up...
