Hey all,
Thought you might find the clip below pretty interesting. This is an ad shoot that myself and some other notable Portland arbs worked on over the summer. Funny how much work went into that less than 10 seconds of tree climbing footage. I do like the double fishermans bit though.
Carol,
Thanks for the invaluable feedback. I think you're totally right about the text, and I will make changes there for sure. I hear what you're saying about having a more specific message and description, that's one I've had a lot of trouble with. I have lots of interests and my work...
Thanks for the feedback Steve. Did you check out some of the gallery pics? I intended that section to perform that function, especially since most folks prefer to look at pretty pictures rather than read text. But it is hard to know what people will actually look at when they check out a site. I...
Hi all,
I've just recently finished all my necessary steps to become a legitimate corporate entity in the state of Oregon, and so I've launched a website: www.emergenttreeworks.com
Generally speaking, I'm not trying to go the retail arboriculture route. I'll have some clients but mostly I...
Guys I can't say enough how much you should support this film festival and send them your best material. I had the chance to be there for last years open and it is a really cool, innovative event. I'll be sending in a submission this year and I would encourage you to do so as well.
Yeah this clearcut dates from late 2012. As an Oregonian I'm certainly not surprised to see large fields of stumps, but seeing fresh stumps of 10' western red cedars really blew my mind.
Guy, not exactly sure, but suspecting that it has to do with a mandate to leave a certain number (in this case 1) of trees standing for wildlife. No evidence of lighting, though swollen base could be evidence of butt or root rot. There was evergreen huckleberry growing out of the top, which is...
Hi all,
A few weeks back I traveled up to BC to join in the effort to climb and measure Big Lonely Doug, the second largest known douglas fir in Canada. This tree gets its name due to the fact that it sits alone in the middle of a clearcut as of late 2012.
We traveled out to the site near...
This is a vid I made from a couple jobs last month. They were a couple of my favorite jobs from shortly after my return to the PNW after a long absence, and also represent pretty typical jobs for the region: confined takedown of a second growth doug fir, and pruning a senescent bigleaf maple...
Hey Roger, thanks for taking the time I shoot the event and to put this up. That was without a doubt the most well-thought out, challenging and fun course I've ever done. Cheers to the route setting team!
I definitely got the top station, and if memory serves I believe Auggie did too.
Haha yes I see now that you already spec'ed dura lock biners. Nice.
Smaller rated rings do exist, for instance I know SMC makes some. Two things I'm not clear on are what is the purpose of the floating ring in the setup, and also how larger/smaller rings would affect whether or not there is...
I like this idea a lot and see a lot of potential utility. I almost always prune with a basal anchor and can imagine lots of situations where it would be really nice to have this sort of retrievable redirect.
A couple design suggestions: consider using smaller cordage. Nobody is going to want...
Anyone else notice that his climb line appears to be anchored to the building? I wonder if a desire to keep a good rope angle or fear of anchoring to the tree or overconfidence caused by having a remote anchor played in to the decision to take the top there. Either way, really freaking bad...
Uh Windthrown this thread is about a single hybrid Juglans that resides in Southeast Portland. As a northwesterner surely you know that coming into a conversation by giving your opinion on the northern spotted owl is about equivalent to coming to a party and throwing a grenade through the...
