I love learning from others on this site. I rarely post and keep a mindset of ears open mouth shut. But I was proud of this one. Sad to remove the tree but it had already been hacked up years prior and didn’t have much left for a canopy. Austrian pine, ~100 yrs old. 26” dbh but only 50’ tall...

Meindl airstream chainsaw boots. US 10.5 Worn twice for a walk around the cemetery. They’re just a schoosh too big. Basically brand new no tags/box. These are the most comfortable boots I own right now (I am wearing a US size 10.) Great on spikes, decent for pruning. I have my first pair still...

Loose Trousers for Arb Work - Japanese Tobi Workwear “Nikkapokka” for arborists?

I have a pair of the kyari chainsaw pants. It’s like wearing sweat pants to work. They’re just ok. Sometimes the chainsaw material feels like a dumpy diaper in the crotch region. But definitely the baggy design allows for more air flow.

These particular beech were in good shape!... I have seen pockets of really bad declining beech trees. BLD? I’m not entirely sure. We work a neighborhood in Webster NY that has been hit pretty hard.

Ooo I like where your heads at haha. The soft shackle could be some other sort of splice or something. It seems clean to me, and I haven’t seen This type of shackle where it’s a closed loop on one side and an openable on the other. Having lots of fun messing with different iterations

    Today....

The tree laid heavy over the beech trees to the west (lake is “north”) with septic out in the yard. It was a rig fest but the wind was cranking off the lake so it was in our favor with swinging some pieces, tip tied etc. a fun morning of problem solving. The boss said we were moving along well...

Haha I am a tinkerer. This is just a fun project build, if I can get it dialed then maybe I’ll break it out for pruning jobs or something. My monkey beaver is my work saddle and straight up lazy boy comfort.

Good to know. Thanks for the tip. I want to mirror the leg loops so I will probably redo both. None of the back splices or brummels are whipped yet.

Iteration #2. Went with 1/4” dyneema woopie sling for adjustable leg loops. And found these sweet soft shackles at west marine for the lower connectors. And tiny friction rings. Feels very sleek. I also realized I could still use the upper “d” as it’s just loops that I can connect lanyard to.

    DMM Harness

Petzl has some video online of a rolling technique to shorten their adjustable bridge. Think, while suspended, pivot to the opposite D of the adjuster, grab the bridge tail, and hip "thrust" or rotate while taking up slack. If any of that makes sense...

Nice, do you attach the uppers with the overhand as standard setup? I like the idea of the Odin rings. I have one that I've messed around with as a friction saver component. The rock exotica rigging plates are super good on my monkey beaver though. I would need to figure a way to use them with...
