    I've seen similar bends in ponderoas up higher on the stem, when the top either died or the tree was topped. When a lower lateral takes over the top, they often have that same bend pictured. I would be inclined to say it was from a natural event, then again, the prevalence of so many in one...

    Bix- If you look at the facts of socialized medicine throughout the world, there is less abuse of the medical system and greater care given in the scheme of things. When people have healthcare available, there is some shift in conciousnness ( term ?) that makes them less likely to go to the ER...

    Spindly, invasive for sure. This was windward side of oahu. They certainly do pop and crack audibly when piecing out stem wood, usually bore cut.

    African tulip ( and sh!t tons of vines). Cleared them out of a huge monkeypod grove for a wetland restoration project. Pieced down down eight (65-80 footers) in two days, good fun.

    That thing was a fatty, nice job. Were you using a grcs to crank some of those lower extended limbs up or just balance rigging?
