Pic of the year! 2012

i hate those trees too. they are a serious problem for our native forests here on maui. they have already taken over 20% of the forests on the windward side and growing. the company i currently work for Aloha Arbor is working the front lines in removing these trees along side of albizzia. watch out for tulips they barberchair easy.

Here's a cool shot of my buddy Dan Severino footlocking at the hawaii comp a month or so back.

Spindly, invasive for sure. This was windward side of oahu. They certainly do pop and crack audibly when piecing out stem wood, usually bore cut.

Horrible trees fer sure Ian, anytime we have high winds they are the first to go. Fast growers and poor root system accounts for their weakness. They are like weeds, very cool photos. I like climbing in black also.

Needless to say, I did not do the work in these pictures. These trees (2 sugar maples on my street) were topped relentlessly, starting who knows how many years ago. It seriously looked like they were trying to kill them, but they would always stop short.

The work was so bad, it still makes me laugh a little bit.

I mean, some of the cuts were over 20", and there were tears on each one. Serious torture for these trees.

Inexplicably, this year they were topped one final time, then subsequently taken down about a month later. This was not a top-job in order to prepare the stobs for floppin', as they left a bunch of limbs untouched. Just a plain strange, thoughtless process. RIP!

They replaced them with some seriously sad little maples, planted too deep, just waiting for them to top them for the first time.

At the top in the heads. Those fronds can reach 10' in length. Massive and very dangerous palms. Delroy got a strong heart fer sure.

Jeez I thought you didn't have big tree's down there. Nice pic's and good to hear that everything is going good.

Having the camera in order is a job in itself, I could of done better this year, but your right, it's not over yet!

Great pics guys, and yes Scott of course I don't mind, lets see em'. That was a fun job you lined up.

Let me see if I can dig something up here...

Those are all fine submissions, but they're getting a little dated already . . . I have some projections and speculations for the 2013 Photo of the Year, if it isn't too early to get started?

Here's one of me working in The Tree of Life, somewhere in Bahrain. It is pretty much a living tree miracle, visited by over 50,000 tourists a year.

I don't show up in the photo very clearly, but it is a picture of the future and hasn't quite happened at this time, so . . .
