Hi Craig,
The first thing I would do if I were you is try to figure out what kind of work visa you could potentially get. If you are a dual US/UK citizen or are married to or a child of a US national, you should have an easy time. If not, you'd likely be looking at a working vacation visa, if...
Hey @rico I'd also vote for the 10mm HTP as being way more static and nicer to work with than 11mm. The cover is a lot tighter to the core vs 11mm.
I work a fair amount of red tree vole surveys here in OR, and a lot of the guys (myself included) will use 8mm amsteel on the anchor side of an SRT...
Hey all, I worked for Paul for a winter some years back when I was living in the Bay Area. Him and his crew are good dudes, their clients are awesome, and most of the work we did was pruning large oak trees. What more could you ask for?
Seriously if you like climbing and pruning sweet trees you...
Stellar work as usual Paul! Always impressed at the level of complexity your crew is able to pull off with the rigging. It's one thing to have the tools and know how they work, but to have a team that can efficiently operate a system with so much going on is a real feat.
I bet working above...
LLC is the obvious choice if you want to go the standard contract climber route. Minimal paperwork but protects you from liabilities you’d have as a sole proprietor. Then if you want to get more professional, look at creating a subcontractor agreement doc to sign with the folks who hire you...
Hey Stan, Brian French has been doing wildlife habitat creation and evaluation seminars through the PNWISA for several years now. Check out their website and see if there’s gonna be one you can make; I bet there’d be a lot of useful info for you in that seminar.
Right on, yeah we just had the annual Portland TCC here which is one of the best regional comps around. The arb community here is welcoming and full of good folks!
Yeah it's a wildlife snag, and it basically turned out like it looks in the photo. Quite a challenge to keep lower branches on the tree when you're rigging everything down, but they add visual interest to the snag and are great perches for birds.
Below is another more recent snag I created out...
Hi everyone,
Sterling Rope has an awesome new podcast called 'Freedom to Focus' hosted by (famous rock climber) Kevin Jorgeson. The second and most recent episode talks about the tree climbing accident and recovery of Rachel Brudzinski; some of you may remember hearing about her accident at the...
Dude that was rad! Nice work on the videos and the rigging/cutting. The pollen coming off that conifer top in the first video made my allergies act up from all the way in Oregon. Must be the jet stream...
What is the name of the portable winch used in 2:48 of the first video?
I am on day 4 post-procedure, and I can't imagine riding a bike any time in the near future. My guess it'll be another 1.5-2 weeks before I can think about that.
Maybe you'll be lucky and have a quick recovery but if I were you I'd be pretty nervous about that timeline!
I did, years ago. The report, which gives the title of the book, actually spurred some of the first workplace safety laws in the US, which were intended to make logging in the PNW less deadly.
The reasons it was so dangerous are many and complicated by changing technologies in different eras...
