attention male climbers a question about "the snip"

Had mine over 30 years ago. Felt a good bit of pain when he pulled at the right side duct to get a better angle on the cut. Felt it clear up in my abdomen. For almost 20 years after that, that same pain occured at just the wrong moment if you catch my drift.
Well that ruined my dinner...

Make up for it with a new entry in TFAD.

After my vasectomy periodically I've had what is referred to as post vasectomy pain syndrome. For me it presented randomly and just felt similar to getting a mild kick in the groin. For a while it was happening quite a bit and then I got checked out and found out it was nothing and I've just ignored it ever since. In my opinion the positives outweigh that occasional ache that now seems to only happen a few times a year. Better than cramps once a month right?

Walking next day, climbing 5-7 days later. Non-scalpel is best. Mine was performed outpatient at my docs office. 30 mins later it's done. I also recommend lots of ice and the Valium helped also.
I have a friend who went the scalpel route and it was a nightmare. Anyone still doing the scalpel version is likely not up to date on the current technology.

I'm trying to plan a mountain bike trip. Unfortunately the best time would start 8 days after the surgery. I am extremely nervous about planning this so close to the snip.

I am on day 4 post-procedure, and I can't imagine riding a bike any time in the near future. My guess it'll be another 1.5-2 weeks before I can think about that.

Maybe you'll be lucky and have a quick recovery but if I were you I'd be pretty nervous about that timeline!

Thanks, this is pretty much what I was thinking but all of my buddies have been harrassing the sh*t out of me. The guys who haven't had the operation seem to think it's no big deal...go figure.

Envision this: A grapefruit. Do you want swelling? A medical professional told me of such a thing from some who didn't play nice and lay around long enough.

I should go fill a cup every once in a while and get tested
I was concerned about mine fixing itself, but it turns out getting re-tested years later was MUCH harder than I anticipated. Apparently most urologists can test it in-house, but aren't willing to put their name on it and so won't do it. They finally got me hooked up with a fertility specialist whose nurse had to call and very solemnly break the sad news to me that "Unfortunately, you won't be able to have any more children."

Mine was 17 years ago with a scalpel. No big deal. Not even a small deal. Procedure Friday afternoon, lay around and watch tv all weekend, back to work (non-climbing!) on Monday. Wore a jock over the top of my undies for a week or so because the sag was uncomfortable pulling on the stitches and the extra support helped. Climbed a week later, no problems.
As for the mountain bike trip.... I do not think I would have wanted to straddle a bike seat for several weeks. I would have been ok to give it a try in the driveway, but I sure wouldn't be signing up for any trips.

Anybody take advantage of the March Madness specials? Apparently some of the Docs do them on Wednesday so the patients have to stay home Thursday and Friday (doctor's orders) and watch basketball.
