    pheromone may be the wrong word....was thinking an odor or attractant such as emitted by ash in China that resists EAB. This is probably just the odor of photosynthate that attracts the beetles. The same with elm I guess.

    You have totally ignored my premise as I remember you created your own narrative in the past. Safety comes first and if in a high target environment with large deadwood I see it is "ok" to make safe removing inert wood beyond the tree's defense system with natural target pruning for deadwood...
