I run the saw program in my fire department. I switched to 462 from 461R. We have had great luck with the 462, light, easy starting. In 2 years, almost no problems with our 462 saws.

I would say low odds on most FD tech rescue guys being familiar with friction hitches. I’ve never seen them used in the fire service personally.

Spent a day in my loggers and a few hours on spurs, all good, I like the socks so far. It’ll be a while before I try a day on the fire line hiking in them, but I’ll plan to do that eventually.....

We encounter this all the time working large wildfires. Every fire department varies from no policy to absolutely no driving over a bridge that isn't posted with load limits. I always look at the supports, abutments and deck first, then consider what is built on the far side of the bridge and...

I’d be willing/interested in trying a pair. I am also a long time advocate of merino wool socks and have some synthetics that have served me well too. My current preference is merino wool, mostly smart wool, drymax is my favorite synthetic.
I am a little of a tree guy, but all...
@Jonny Shoulder surgery and climbing aren’t compatible. Had one in Oct. 19, have an MRI scheduled next week for possibly another on the same shoulder. Good thing I’m still a career Fire Captain.

My boys started running a small saw with supervision at about 12 and 14, progressed to actually working on the ground at 15 and 17. With my boys, if the older one does anything, the younger one is wired to keep up. We have settled in where my older boy cuts and bucks on the ground and my younger...
