    Looking for a descender or climbing device with a "neutral" mode

    The zigzag idea would be pretty practical, I’m not familiar enough with the unicender but I believe it requires weight in the device to function but couldn’t you take the wrap around the keys and just lock it with a slip knot until you needed it, pull the slip knot and be on your way?

    For fall or even the bitter cold winters I’ve found running a pair of basketball or athletic shorts underneath whatever pants tends to cut down the wind and keep the legs warmer without sweating them out when moving.
