About 10 minutes without rushing from getting out of the truck to getting back in and driving off… open dump body doors, climb up top to lift loader out of the way, climb down lift dump body, climb in cab pull truck forward. Get out, lower dump body, climb up top stow grapple loader, climb down...
I think that begs the question, what’s “properly fixed”mean? According to the guy who welded it, it’s fixed.. according to some tree guys I’ve never met on the internet it’s going to self destruct and kill somebody.. ethically, I would sell this machine with that drum in it, I would simply...
It isn’t unprecedented, I’m just not totally familiar with the process. I believe landmark machinery repairs drums like this fairly often. Hell they said they could repair the drum out of my BC2100xl (the photos from the beginning of this thread). Ended up replacing that with a new one. This...
Me too, this thing had heavy wear spots, didn’t seem perfectly cylindrical at all.. never bounced, or “felt out of balance” and the bearings were fine, so idk
I’ll take it to another shop for a second opinion.. I doubt their insurance would cover anything.. I run one crew and this is my 3rd, oldest, and smallest chipper, so it’s costing me more in shop space than downtime.. it needs to be useable for pruning/ under CDL driver, or sellable.. either...
Fair enough, welding isn’t my forte but I will definitely have another set of experienced eyes look at it before I go through the trouble of putting it back into the machine.. making me think harder about biting the bullet for a new drum…
Idk if I said this already but a new drum from Vermeer is $11,500ish, that doesn’t include the shaft. A different company has drum and shaft available for $9,500ish..this weld cost me a couple hundred bucks.. that being said I don’t want to have to take this machine apart again if the weld...
Used the grapple truck to pull the drum out, had to cut off one bearing, otherwise it went smoothly..got the drum back from weld shop today. Will reassemble next weekend.
Big wood was cut to 3 pieces of firewood, hauled out with Kubota track skidsteer using pallet forks.. 60” Ryan’s grapple wanted nothing to do with the big stuff.. brought it home used the splitfire attachment to bang the big ones down to manageable size..very expensive to get ride of wood. and...
Big dying pin oak removal.. huskey 3120 with 42” bar to fell and flush the stump.. probably 70ish” at the ground… different job I hit a funny sounding rock with the rg100 with green teeth.. old metal sewage clean out was pretty well hidden, teeth seemed fine.
Above the vertical feed wheels is an access panel to the top of the feed wheels. There, there are 2 large springs that are forcing the feed wheels together. Remove the springs by hand and slide the feed wheels open to full width of the throat. The machine has an option for a winch also. prefer...
So it sounds like I should ask around and find a more capable local welder to potentially repair it the way you described. That’d be ideal if we didn’t have to pull the drum too. Thanks. I’ll ask around and if no luck I’ll reach out to one of the shops you recommended.
