Glad you didn’t get clobbered on the way up.I mis-judged this one. I was planning on cutting it into pieces after securing it with a rope. It looked firmly attached, but it broke free as I was tying it off. The lower limb caught it, and I pulled it down after I was on the ground.

I'll remember this one if I'm ever tempted to climb under something heavy I'm not sure of.
I’m sure you know, but it is possible in some cases to tie things off remotely. By isolating your throwline, you can set a running bowline on something and then work on setting the remaining rope into rigging.
Whether or not the juice is worth the squeeze can obviously vary with the complexity of the situation, but the option is sometimes there and can help mitigate risk.
