Today....

Took this picture yesterday and forgot to post it, just beautiful perfectly shaped oak I saw out running errands don't the hill not huge probably 30-36 dbh.
That looks more like a blue oak than a valley oak or a black oak. Your hills grow the best blue oaks anywhere. I am organizing my pictures from an epic blue oak I trimmed a bit over in Rough and Ready

So, this was the blue oak I did last weekend. Also, I sadly can't get my phone to let me upload any of the other pictures right now, but these are after the trim. Lots of branches were on the lower roof, and many tips were brushing the walls. They wanted it reduced back from the deck, and asked to keep the large mossy stubs. I also went up on the roof with the 6 foot reach shears to nibble a few tips back after these pictures.

I'm not sure on exact species that's as close as I got driving, this one was down in rocklin. Some amazing oaks over around rough and ready and Penn Valley area.

Without getting into specifics due to a bit of 'not my business,' and 'don't know the details', I've heard of two tree guys I know apparently breaking their collar bones in the last few days. One I guess in an ATV accident and another taking an unintended swing after a limb failure. Life can come at you fast and change all your best laid plans.

Broke my collar bone logging in Hobart Bay Alaska in the 80's. Very painful injury that took quit awhile to heal. The good news is that since it healed I haven't really thought about it for 37-38 years.

Got home from work to find this guy sitting on my porch pretty stoked, took it to go do a little bit of chipping down the road left over from a job the other day. Pretty impressed with it in the little bit of use it's got well be playing with it more tomorrow.

Have you used the earlier generation, the T540i? I'm certainly curious to hear your impressions either way.

Might as well share the completion of the job I started yesterday. The photos don't do the steepness justice, but I spent literally all day, solo, climbing up and down that hill to pull the stick over uphill with the winch, clean up the last bit of brush, and move all the wood side-hill, then downhill so the customer can get the wood. The fat logs there are 8' long and about 26-34", and he plans to mill them into counter tops and stuff. One of the big tasks of the day was just making sure logs or rocks didn't roll downhill and hit the cabin, which is why you see the piece I'm bucking chained to the stump before finishing the cut.

Yes I have 2 t540ixp one is not quite 2 years old and seems to have given up on life the other had some molding issues with the body that was making the trigger stick just got that one back from the shop today. 542 seems like it's a bit faster and stronger running not sure that I'll have much big stuff to cut until at least Friday but maybe not until Monday or Tuesday next week when I do some eucalyptus. One thing I immediately noticed that made me happy is the clutch cover seems to be metal crappy cast metal but stiffer than the plastic on the t540ixp and seems to have a larger discharge area for clearing chips.

Cool, look forward to hear more as you spend some time with it.

I love my T540i, also maybe 2-ish years old? It's been a great saw overall, but seems to lack some of the power it used to have. Not sure if it's the saw itself or I just need new batteries, which of course I should try first... 2/3 of my Q500 battery chargers have died on me and the local-ish dealer so far has been ZERO help resolving it even though its supposed to be covered under warranty, and Husky knows it's a terrible charger that fails all the time....

That's a bummer I think 2 of my batteries have crapped out noticed one of my chargers was being weird today unplugged it for a while and it seems to have resolved but I don't have a battery that's not fully charged to pop in there. Hoping saw and battery that was in it are both fully crapped out so I can get them replaced as my warranty expires in a few months. The 542 seems faster than my 540s the battery is the same I didn't get any more when I got the saw.

Was talking to an island manager who coordinates all the maintenance and equipment a few bays over. This past winter the shop burned down including tractor/mowers/chipper etc, and hypothesis is faulty Li charger. Good call being vigilant.
